Cheeky B@stards at Carephone Warehouse

I can't believe the cheek of the people at Carephone Warehouse! I was led to believe when I took out the insurance with them that I would be able to get a replacement handset without any fuss should I have any faults, etc. with my phone. This couldn't be FURTHER from the truth. They have just told me that I am to be provided with a courtesy handset (not of the same standard) for the 14 (yes that's 14) days it will take them to repair it!

What a damn cheek! It will only take HTC 4 days to repair my phone during which time I will be without it (guess that's better than 14). A lot of this is down to Orange as I called them when I first had the fault and they couldn't give me an answer and I am now outside the 28 days I had to get a free replacement. I don't have ORANGE CARE at the moment so can't get a replacement from them either! I am going to be setting up Orange Care in the very near future (i.e. today).

I just thought I would let people know in case they were given the same impression I was when Carephone Warehouse try and sell you "insurance". Their insurance is about as much use as a concrete cushion.

Cheers

Yeah Insurance from phone shops generally stinks, I got my phone from THe Link and I had to practically BEAT them off with a stick to get out of the shop without buying their crappy insurance.

I think the little sales trolls get UBER commision on it or something.

I was suckered into buying it on my last phone and found the same 14 day wait you did. The nice lady in the shop told me that if my phone were smashed or stolen I would get a new one there and then.

I have always had very good experience of orange care with a new phone being provided VERY soon after I make the call.

Bye bye

Yup love Orange care. Replacement phone within 24 hours. Even had one delivered on a Sunday!

yeah! remember getting a phone from the link. they were arguing with each other as to who was serving me!!

Orange care is definetly the best, but the remark about us sales people on "uber" commision isn't true, something like 75p for each unit we sell!

Not even worth the effort for us...

Hmmm,

Anyone know if all the networks provide phone cover instead of shops? got the link cover plan, and it took four weeks to fix my sony z5, and it came back with exactly the same fault.

So the guy offered to send it off again.

Oh and replace it with another five year old loan phone that was dumped because the battery was worn out.

grrr,

oh, yeah cover plan for o2 anyone?

My dad bought a phone from advance com and he has 3 months free insurance with it. Before i had phones of advance com and they asked you if you would like to take out an insurance plan you say yes and it would apear on your orange bill as orange care. They have now changed to some other company and whats worse is that there is a 50 pound excess on it. I told my dad to phone orange and get orange care and he did. He had a replacement phone the next day. I also got a new phone of them and i got straight on the phone to orange and got orange care. Ive been with orange on contract for 4 years and i have had orange care on every one of them.

Orange Care rules - got a phone delivered (dropped the bugger) at 7pm on a Saturday night, and then another one (warranty fault) at 9am on Tuesday morning.

T'is free for businesses as well, which is always nice.

Oh, also, quite nice how they only charge you only £13 if you're not in (although I've not experienced it), especially because the courier's same day.

I concure, don't do anything else but orange care, like the chap above, I had 3 free months from Advance Communications. Read the small print - you have to basically get mugged before you'll get a new phone, no "mysterious dissapearences" or "oh I left it on the tube" or "sugar I left it on the roof of the car! ;) "

For 1p more (£5) you can get orange care, which gets cheaper year after year without claiming. I didn't even wait for the free 3 months to finish as it just didn't provide the cover.

I used to, with a previous job, get an insight in what goes on in these stores. No I was not a salesman

I can confirm they do have big incentives to sell insurance. They offer fancy holidays and the such to sales people who sell loads of it.

I always tell them that if it goes wrong outside the normal warranty then I am rich enough just to buy a new one. It usually shuts them up dead.

I can't speak highly enough of Orange Care.

After a particularly drunken night, I found myself walking down Oxford Street at seven thirty in the morning without any idea quite how the hell I got there. I soon realised that my mobile was gone, got into the office and phoned Orange up.

They told me to report it to the cop shop and then phone Orange up again with the reference number.

This I did at 8:30 on that Friday night.

The replacement phone was delivered to my office at 9:00 on Monday morning. Maybe living in London helped with the times, but still... that kind of convenience is *more* than worth £5/month.

Im sorry but thats utter rubish, emphasis on you "used" to, o2 sales people used to be on commision, not anymore. We are not under that much pressure to sell the stuff, it just can genuinly be a good thing, imaging this. The everyday user buys a nokia, they drop it and it dies. We cant fix it so u get a cheque for around 400quid to get any other new fone, free upgrade!

Did I quote getting an insight into an 02 shop. I don't think so. Therefore your reply of "utter rubbish" IS utter rubbish and cannot be justified. The stores I was on about belong to the DSG chain.

;) Yawwwwwn

Engage brain before mouth. I guess from your reply, "We are not under that much pressure to sell the stuff" you are one of those people who are responsible selling us phones based on a 2 second training course before the store opens by handing a phone around or you learn about them from the customer.

I was sold a case that was for a nokia that did not fit when I bought my SPV because the dopey salesperson thought it did not come with one and a Nokia might fit.

NEVER get any phone insurance other than Orange Care. Orange Care are absolutely great. They cover you for everything you'll need (except war and terrorism!) and they've never tried to skank me. Just make sure you check what your covered for and read the small print very carefully BEFORE you make any claim as you may need to slightly tweak you story on how you lost it. Ie. Make sure you tell them that you went back and tried to look for it cus they'll f**k you over if you dont. But then all insurance companies will do that.

Posted

Do they? I was stupidly (or hungoverly) honest, just said that I'd found myself walking through central london after a heavy night out and was without my mobile...

Posted

I suppose that if you were pissed up, walking through London on a night out you could have lost your phone absolutely anywhere so maybe it wouldnt apply. But if for example you were walking the dog along your usual route through fields and stuff and lost your phone you would definately be expected to retrace your steps. Or say you lost it in a shop fitting room or in a shopping center, you would definately be expected to phone the shop and the center to ask if it was handed in.

I quote from the terms and conditions:-

A replacement or repair will not be provided if:

a) Orange has reason to believe you have made a fraudulent claim.

;) You do not make reasonable efforts to recover any lost or stolen items.

How much is this Orange Care for the SPV? another trick to get rid of those pushy sales people is tell them work insure your phones for you

Posted

It's £5 per month for all phones, or free if you're a registered limited company.

I bought two phones from Carphone Warehouse, and specifically made clear that I wanted Orange Care on both - still ended up getting the CPW insurance salesman ringing me up a week later, twice.

Have to agree with whats been said here that Orange care is the only cover you should use period!!

My phone was faulty and i rung them up and got it replaced within 24hrs with a brand spanking new handset. They even provide all the stuff you need to send the faulty phone back in which is nice.

And at £5 a month extra on my contract i cant complain one bit...;)

has nobody realised that orange care is a warentee as well as an insurance package. Thats why they replace the handset straight away or within 24 hrs insurace brought from retailers is that strictly insurance. this is because the warentee responsibility lies with the manufacturer. the only trouble with orange care is that you get a recondisioned handset not a brand new one!!!!

I know the industry and comission is paid on every component of the sale. If comission is not paid then it falls into the remit of performance indicators. Sales people are hammered by their managers to push insurance at all costs. It is a very lucrative income for the shops. I know because I used to own a few. (shops that is)

Orange care is the best package in the industry. Purely because warranty claims are inclusive in the 24 hour clause. Just say it doesnt work. No why, what happened or anything else. Just say it worked and now it doesnt and you get a replacement and a jiffy in 24 hours. Not bad for a fiver a month. Just think. The cost of a packet of fags or two pints to have peace of mind knowing if your (not cheap) handset fails it will be replaced in 24 hours. ;)

Still the best about

The casing is brand new, only the components are re-used if anything - so it's basically the same as having an old phone repaired, but made-new.

The basic warranty offers to have your phone repaired, which could take weeks.

well mate as i work in the phone industry in an orange dealership i will tell you that just because it's reconditioned doesn't mean that you get a new casing. infact most of the orange care replacements have a few scraps and dints. This is because all they do is check them over for faults in software and any that are badly damaged do get a new casing on them but majority do not!!! because most of the units are the ones sent back within the 14 day window you have to cancel your contract if you wish!!! or didn't you know that!!! also most of the time I believe a company called TRS repairs most of the handsets! although not SPV's at this time!!!

sorry!!!!
