MPx220 USB Cable problems

I just bought a Motorola MPx220 from somebody with USB cable included.

I also upgraded the ROM to 1.49 using this cable (following a tutorial with removing the battery) and everything went perfect. Conclusion = cable is working.

My problem is that I cannot connect the phone with the computer using ActiveSync.

When I cannect the cable, the phone is switching to PROFILE: CAR and it's charging the battery.

On the computer side, nothing is happening.

Can somebody please help me out on this one ?

Thanks

You you certain its an actual Motorola cable? It's possible that its one of the knockoffs that don't work right (I got fooled by one of those before with my v300 before I got the mpx220).

I'm using AAKN4011A cable and is charging only :).

I cannot sync or copy files. When I connect the cable is going to CAR profile and there is no sound (if someone calls me when charging...I will not hear the phone).

Any ideas?

Does your cable have a place to connect the motorola PSU in the side of the plug that fits in the phone?

If not then it is not the correct specific cable for the mpx220. My mpx220 cannot be recognised on my comp using anything other than the official cable with the adaptor plugged in, vene the offical motorla cable that came with my v600.

See above! As explained in my previous post, you need the cable that has the mains adaptor socket in the side NOT the one that comes with a v600 etc :)

I will try and get another cable and I'll let you know how it goes.

The thing is that even if I use the charger (not the usb cable) is doing the same: going to car profile...

I'm thinking something is wrong with the phone...

Solutions to the Cable and ActiveSync Problem

I feel your pain with the MPx220. I love the phone so much for all that it offers but it has been a work in progress getting to my level of understanding with this phone. This phone offers a lot of features but it is not as userfriendly on all levels. You actually need to have LOTS patience and some time to work through all the glitches in the phone. Most times everything has to be set just right to have it function. My problem with the phone now is that it is not taking the charge at all, and it was totally dead. I thought it was the battery so I ordered a new battery. It work! Then I put the phone to charge again on all charges (home, car and USB) and it was not charging. :) I took it in for repair and was told that the charging mechanisms in the phone was fried and I will have to purchase an external battery charger. I was searching online for one (which I found for $6.99) when I saw your cries for help and decided to register to respond. Even though I cannot switch my phone on to walk you through the steps of making it work with the cable you have, I will give some ideas on alternative solutions to your cable situation.

As for the "cable problem with the Active Sync", I have two solutions which worked for me. I bought a bluetooth USB adaptor for my computer, which allowed my computer to be bluetooth and made Active Sync connection wireless. With bluetooth a whole new wireless world open to me. Both devices recognized each other and was able to synchronize and transfer files, movies, music etc. To set the phone up with the bluetooth link you have to read the phone manual to get all the phone setting correct. I also use my phone to connect my laptop to the internet where ever I go using my phone as a dial up modem. I already had the internet service for the phone functionality so I just extended it to the laptop and PDA via bluetooth. Note: For internet service on the phone you have to purchase from your phone provider. Found Bluetooth Adapters at Staples (Kensington brand for $24.99) and OfficeDepot (Targus brand for$39.99). Also available online for cheaper.

Second solution, I purchased cable kit. "DataPilot PiX 'N Tunes" X6phone connectors with universal cables for all phones including your MPx220. It was $29.99 but it works wonders not only with your phone but many other data transferable gadgets including my camera and printer. Found at Best Buy but are available online also.

If and when all fails there is always the mini SD card that the phone uses. Purchase a SD or multi card reader for $7.99-$19.99 and that will do the job for sure. I purchase my 11 in 1 multi card at HomeDepot for $9.99 while looking for paint, but you can get it anywhere. Office Depot has the "MediaGear" that looks like JumpDrives.. no cables, just open it up and place the SD card in it. Really compact and neat.

The bottom line is that it will cost you if your cable is not working properly. Unless you are like me and just before I go to sleep some nights I make discovering my phone my night cap until I fall off to sleep with exhaustion. You will be surprised the things you can discover. If this is helpful anyone please let me know.

Activesync won't work unless Modem link (Start\Accessories\Modem link) link is set to inactive. In active mode mpx220 functions as a modem. There's nothing wrong with the cable.......

Well, Modem Link was on inactive and sync was not working.

Anyway, I got it to work, at last !!!

With the USB cable connected to the phone and the computer I went to Start\Accessories\Modem link and set it to active. Windows started to install the modem. After that, I set the Modem Link to inactive and the phone started to sync with the computer.

So, half of my problems are now solved. :)

The only thing that bothers me is that when I connect the USB cable to the phone or the charger...the phone goes to CAR profile and I have no sound at all. Is there any way to disable this profile or at least modify it so I can have sounds?

Thank you all!

Having same problem

modem link is set to inactive, and it won't even let me scroll down to change if I wanted to.

This happened to me about a month ago. The only way I got it to work was to delete the partnership in activesync on my computer and reinstall. However, this caused every entry in outlook and my phone to double. With several hundred contacts and several thousand entires in my calender, it's something I don't want to do again.

Any other ideas?

Never mind, got it to work. I should probably actually read the previous posts, and pay attention........

Any ideas on disabling the CAR profile?

I have no sound on charging the phone or when it's connected with USB cable.
