Guest sketchmasterx Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Hello, I have just purchased a 1gb Kingston mini Sd card for my 2 month old SP5 so i can use TomTom in the future. When i first put it in the phone it detected it, formated it and i used it for a bit it then lost it, i turned phone off and on again and it came back! Did this three or four time throughout the day and it worked but now it wont come back! It's as if it's vanished! Has any one had this fault? I think i saw it somewhere else being talked about on the QTEK 8310 but cant find that post again. If any one has any ideas i would be very happy to here them as this is really annoying me! Many thanks,
Guest jimbouk Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Have you updated your rom to the latest? This is a prevalent problem with ppc's running original WM5 roms but seems fixed on latest roms (assuming there is a new smartphone rom too).

Hi, Yeah i recently updated to the latest ROM in order to use Exchange PUSH email. I just checked the i-mate site and it's still the latest version. (thank you for replying)
Guest kam_ Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 What software/tweaks are you using? Check for the existance of \Storage Card2 If the phone see's no storage card, it creates a directory on the device called \Storage Card and when you insert your card, it labels that \Storage Card 2 I've had this happen a few times when the sdcard has locked up. Aparently its a well known problem when you point your email and atachments to the storage card instead of device memory. If that's whats happened, delete \Stotrage Card and reboot. Hope that made sense.. really tired right now!
Guest sketchmasterx Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Thanks for the info, i cant see a folder caled storage card, would it be at root? So far there no tweaks on the phone, only thing i have installed it the i-mate power managment tool and my 02 settings. Thanks again
Guest sketchmasterx Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Ok thats weird, having left it out all day i just put the card into my home pc using the sd adapter and it wasnt readable(Mmmm) but i just put it back into my phone o the off chance and it detected it,said it was unreadable and would i like to format it! so i did and it seems fine. I will now keep an eye on it and report back tomorrow if it looses it again. Thanks for the help, Andrew
Guest sketchmasterx Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Well i have a theory, it WAS working fine until i pointed the phones camera at the storage card and took some pictures, it then started running slow and crashing, so i switched off the phone and took the card out and used the camera etc again and it all worked fine. I then put the card back in and guess what, it doesnt see it any more! If i recall correctly yesterdays problems also started when i started using the camera directly to the storage card. If i can get it to work again then i wont use the camera again!
Guest sketchmasterx Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Ignore that theory i have proved it wrong! The card now seems to be dead, if i can get hold another to test then i will try that.
Guest kam_ Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Can you format it in your PC and still use it? I know that windows will shut off access to the storage card if the power gets really low. In that case if you try to access anything on it, it will create \Storage Card2 as if the card wasn't present. The other time it will do this, or loose access to the card, is usually when you transfer a bunch of files to it continuously - increasing the chance a write could be interupted. This happens to me when i point IMAP mail to my storage card and get ALOT of email in one day. It corupts the card and i have to repair it - i now keep a backup every time i change something on the card. But this shouldn't be happening so often if you're battery isn't really low, or you're not streaming or copying large data to the card. Maybe its just a faulty card?
Guest sketchmasterx Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Thank you for the reply, I was able to use the card in my PC but that seems to off stopped workin now, i'm starting to think it is the card ;) I wasnt using it for anything to intensive just the odd picture and mp3. think i will get antoher card and test it, thanks again.
Guest kam_ Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 If you got it new, just return it or get a replacement. As long as it doesn't look physically damaged or worn, i'm sure kingston, sandisk etc have good waranties on these things. In fact even if u didn't get it new you way be able to make some waranty claim since its obvious these 2GB cards are less than 1 year old.

Guest sketchmasterx Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Just got a replacement card through and it works fine, so looks like i had a dodgy Kingston 1gb mini SD card. thank you for the all the help resolving this.
Guest Ingvarr Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 (edited) Kingston is a clearly the bad choice. People having same problems with them all over the net. I dont know who exactly is responsible here - Kingston made card of bad quality, or just these particular phones cant handle them, but still, its a fact - avoid Kingston. Sandisk is the most trouble-free brand up to now, I recommend you go with it. Edited May 5, 2006 by Ingvarr
