Guest themugger Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Hi all,im wondering if you could offer some advise. I have a Orange SPV M600 and have on my account a 10 mg gprs package (per month) I use the phone travelling around alot and have setup an account in outlook to check my email via yahoo. Currently i have the phoine checking the account every 15 minutes, if there is new email then only a 1k header will be downloaded. This all works really well and it really is email on the go... My concern is the GPRS used to check the mail, now i have installed SPB Gprs monitor and All Locations GPRS Trafffic and both are reported way different values. The SPB monitor is reporting over 4 mb in 2 days, where as All Locations is only reporting 500 kb. Of course id like to believe All Locations but if im wrong im going to get a hefty bill at the end of the month. In the last 2 days i have only recieved say about 20 emails, all about 1-2 kb and a few larger mails around 20-30kb which i downloaded. I also visited a few web pages to try and see what values they produced as well. So overall 500 kb sounds about right. The thing im worried about is when im checking the email is this using alot of data or not, as im sending and recieving every 15 minutes? what do you guys think? Cheers Tom
Guest fraser Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 (edited) It's not as simple as just measuring on the phone. ;) The networks convienently round up the values into billing units. I have no idea which networks do this, and how. Perhaps per GPRS session, per hour, per day and so on. Some of the traffic monitoring tools know about this and can compensate. So, if you use 10kb and it's recorded in blocks of 50kb, 50kb will be recorded. Perhaps this explains the discrepancy you have? Edited April 21, 2006 by fraser

Ive just changed over to push email and the difference in data without the polling every 10-15 minutes is alot. Ill just have to wait for the bill now to see what bit of software is right lol!
