Guest andyhud Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Hi all, Apologies if this is the wrong forum but I wanted to clear up a query I have before I get me WM5 device (havent decided which one yet) Basically I currently have a MDA Compact (Version 1) that syncs every ten mins with my exchange server.. all is fine. However, my Outlook has many many subfolders within "Inbox" and I have server side rules that moving incoming messages to the respective folders. With PPC2003 I only get a "new email notification" alert if a mail arrives in the main "inbox" not if someone emails me and the server side rule puts it in a subfolder. Its now second nature for me to scan quickly those folders anyhow but does WM5 support notifying you of new email if one is in a subfolder upon arrival? Or can someone do the honour of finding out (those using Exchange 2003 SP2) ? Kind regards Andy
Guest jimbouk Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Hi. Subfolders new msg notification is same as before (IE need to manually check), but I can confirm that WM5 MSFP Rom's (with exchange server 2003 sp2 account) do everything that WM2003se used to do plus directpush.
Guest Islanti Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Subfolders new msg notification is same as before (IE need to manually check) That's unfortunate, and a bit strange. MS mentioned in their whitepapers that there would be extra load on the Exchange server with MSFP due to it checking all the subfolders for new mail instead of just Inbox. Maybe the server does notify your device of new mail in subfolders, but the Messaging (Inbox) application in WM5 doesn't check the subfolders to actually notify YOU? If so, that's an annoying oversight.
Guest squilla Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 It would be great if there was a way of putting in a sub folder for text messege notification / delivery reports.
Guest andyhud Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Cheers for the information chaps... I'm certain that there are many people in the same "boat" with the same query... I guess I'll find out for sure when I try it when I eventually get my hands on a WM5 device with MSFP in the UK! I'll update as and when unless someone can beat me to it! Regards Andy
Guest Webreaper Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 It's worth noting that this is a bug in the full-blown PC version of outlook too - if you have rules set up to move new emails to folders, the new mail notification popup in Outlook doesn't get triggered for them.

Desktop notifications do not appear, that's true. FWIW, you can use the "Unread Mail" folder view in Outlook 2003 to view unread messages from all folders, though. I have a custom view created which sorts by "In Folder" (Outlook field name) and then by "Conversation Topic" which I use in the Unread Mail folder to view everything without losing the source folder. Still no notification, but at least you see everything without digging through lots of sub-folders.
