Hi, please don't bite, as I know this must have asked before, but after trawling the search facility with no joy, here goes.

I am unable to send emails from my Varrio, i have the email function set up properly, I receive mail from Outlook and hotmail, but when i send test mails from these accounts, they are never received the other end, I can chat on pocket msn, so i know this works fine, but no emails sent from hotmail account get to their destination.

I think it's probably because your outgoing email server address must be through your phone operator...eg voda or orange etc....and not your ISP. Call your operator and they'll provide the settings

As you mention the Vario, I'm assuming you're on T-Mobile?

SMTP setting is: smtp.t-email.co.uk

These are the settings i have. I have contacted T Mobile and they don't have a clue, they read out the settings that I should have, and they are the same as in my Vario. Now seems that when i compose and send email with outlook, they just sit in the outbox.

Yes, the emails just sit in the outbox, I select them and click send, and nothing seems to happen, there they are, still in the outbox, I've only had this thing for 4 days, and am thinking of taking it back, as the only reason i got it was to keeps tabs on my emails, and T Mobile have been useless. I have been able to send mail by logging onto mobile msn, and going into my hotmail account, and also by going to NTL site, and sending from there. I got 3 more days to sort this out or it's being binned. Anyways, thanks for the replys, rant over.

Have to say that setting up and using email on my Vario was a doddle. Did you buy from a T-Mob shop?

Even if you didn't, I'd go to the nearest one and show them what's happening.

If you tell us more about whats happening it might be something simple...

You say you can use webmail - is that on the device or via your pc? IE can you successfully connect to the web on your device?

On your device, when you select menu, send/receive (in the relevant mail account), does it say "connecting" at the bottom of the screen?

Does the device connect to GPRS successfully? If so, does the status at the bottom of the screen change to logging on?

If so does it change to sending and receiving mail?

Once we identify where the problem is, then we may have a chance of sorting it.

Hi there. I'm trying to use smtp.t-email.co.uk to send email with my vario on t-mobile, but I continually get a "the message(s) could not be sent. check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. then try sending again".

I know I'm on the netowork since i can still receive emails (though painfully slowly), and i've triple checked that i have in fact typed in smtp.t-email.co.uk on the outgoing mail server.

Any thoughts? Is there a particular login/password I'm supposed to use for the smtp server? Thanks!

Hi, also having teething probs on Vario with email and internet, maybe answers are obvious but would be glad of some help. Never used PDA before but familiar with net settings.

I set up first of all using wizard, then another method (outlook mail? that I now cannot find!) Ended up with 2 accounts and neither worked. I used server settings from my main PC internet provider eg auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk

Should I use t-mobile servers like you are suggesting or is this just if setting up a new email account at T-Mobile? I just want to continue with my current 2 pop3 email accounts.

Suddenly they both worked, bringing in the same 17 emails, and are shown as separate INBOXES, then there is a further Outlook INBOX.

Firstly, how do I get rid of duplicate account, there seems no option (like in outlook express) to delete accounts?

Secondly what is the difference between these and Outlook FOLDERS or does that setup after synching?

Thirdly, emails were still present on home PC, like when you use webmail. Why is this?

When trying to delete, I found option for Email Connection: THE INTERNET, T-Mobile INTERNET and MY ISP. They were both set to The INTERNET. Again is this correct and what is the difference?

I have found that despite 3G showing all the time, with 2-4 strength bars, the www works for a few mins then not for 5 mins. When pages wont load, I get error 0x80072f78. Is this like a common 'webpage cannot be found' type message? Is this intermittant connection common?

Lastly, cant find HSDPA on online account settings anywhere so phoned TM but Technical had long queue, but then when Net was working, I got a 1.2 megabits per second reading from bandwidthplace.com using 3G Wireless as the Communiocation type. So can I assume it is on?

Sorry for so many questions!

Wondering whether HSDPA was on, account shows even 3G off! Is this the same as you guys? Something is working (intermittantly) at 1.2 megabits per sec!

I'll try to answer some of these

I'd just use the t-mobile smtp server for sending mails

Firstly, how do I get rid of duplicate account, there seems no option (like in outlook express) to delete accounts?

Go into the Inbox, select Menu>Tools>Options. You should see a list of Accounts. Tap and hold the one you want to delete.

Thirdly, emails were still present on home PC, like when you use webmail. Why is this?

I think this will be a setting either in the POP3 settings on the phone or at the email provider. I've not used POP3 for a bit, but seem to recall there should be an option somewhere for something like "if messages are picked up off the server, still keep them on the server for X days or delete them?"
