Hi Everyone, Good to be here. I am not sure if this was discussed, since SDA and wireless returned a lot of results, I decided to start a topic.

I cannot believe SDA does not offer a way to assign IP address, Gateway or DNS. What kind of mind is that microsoft did not include a way to manually set information for the wi-fi on WM 5.0

Only way to connect to a network is via DHCP, so if you secured your home connection in any other way, too bad, because you cannot input manual IP address! Is there a 3rd party application or anything else that can help SDA Users???

Thank You

Setup DHCP with a pool of however many devices you have and then manually reserve each ip address to a MAC address. That way only your devices will be allocated ip addresses.

Probably not so easy if you were relying on XP or your router to carry out DHCP.

Right, that's what I did, I set up dhcp start as 200 and assign ip to other pcs below that.

You know, at home it is no problem, as it's your network you can do whatever you want, how about someone elses network? Sometimes networks need you to assign IP for example at work, or certain offices/buildings. I mean this thing is obviously done with hotspots or public/private access points in mind, with WEP/WPA in mind and since most of them use DHCP to avoid overlapping IP addresses. However it still shocks me how a simple option was omitted form WM5 Phone.
