Guest G35C Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Is there a way to keep the LCD on forever? On all my previous (dumb) phones, the screen saver would show info such as the current Time which I could see outdoors without pressing any buttons. Note: I don't want to change the backlight functionality, just the LCD.
Guest G35C Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 So I guess I'm the only one irritated by not seeing the LCD with the backlight off?
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Guess so ;) The main problem with your request is the power drain this would cause so people would be reluctant to use such a screensaver app. There are screen saver apps around but they are more of a gimmick than any real use.
Guest maniac103 Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Guess so ;) I do not guess so. A lot of people have asked me how to do this as they want to use the screen saver in Automatic Keylock. The main problem with your request is the power drain this would cause so people would be reluctant to use such a screensaver app.You are wrong...the LCD being enabled does not drain a lot of power. The backlight being enabled permanently does. I guess that's the origin of his question :P On my previous Typhoon (T-Mobile SDA), I had enabled the LCD all the time and the battery usage was moderate. I had a stand-by time of at least 3 days. There are screen saver apps around but they are more of a gimmick than any real use. Did you have a look at Automatic Keylock? ;)
Guest G35C Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 awarner (MVP): All normal phones that have screen savers leave their LCDs on by default. Why is the battery drainage never an issue for those phones??? maniac103: It's funny that you mention Automatic Keylock. This is exactly the reason why I want the LCD to be ON forever. What an amazing application! Just need to figure out how to keep the LCD on now...

I have developed it :P In principle, it is possible to keep the LCD on with backlight off. You can see that if you add the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Power/State/On/BKL1: (DWORD) and set this value to 3. When the device is used normally, the backlight will stay off while the LCD is on. Unfortunately, this does not work for the BacklightOff state ;)
Guest Zahid Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 This is how I have my C500 set up, with the screen constantly on, no issues with power consumption. I've upgraded to an M600 (HTC Prophet) and really miss this feature! There doesn't seem to be any way in the menu system to set this up.
