the only way to get sound out of the device is to either use my bluetooth headset or the wired connection. maybe the internal speaker is gone? any parts available for it?

Mine is the same ;) I think it's just a loose connection as itook it apart to replace the covers and keys. What happens when you use speakerphone? (Hold down the green button during a call)

na, i even took it apart...the connection is fine and clean. speakerphone won't even start....i don't hear anything. i did buy the phone off ebay knowing the speaker wasn't working...but i thought like motorola's you can find the part...this you can't! also this is running windows mobile 5...does that play a role?

Hello guys,

I also have a c500 and have the same issue no loudspeaker or even vibrate (see below for my original post to a "dev" forum). In fact I did think that it was a registry/config issue and so I blew a WM5 ROM onto it (after a backup) and the vibrate came back and it was still there when I downgraded back to 2003 SE but still no loudspeaker (ring, alarm or speakerphone).

I'm planning to open it up to take another look at connections etc but have had no useful replies so far. I'm guessing that as I got vibrate back it must me a HW or speaker issue but I'm not 100%

Cheers

----- 26-Apr-06 Update to Original

Hello All,

I updated the ROM to WM5 (and infact I also restored my old ROM from a backup too in order to test both) and now the vibrate function works but the audio tones are still silent. So I'm beginning to wonder if it is a HW issue with the speaker after all so all (firmware, registry and software) settings should now be reset.

----- Original Post

Hello All,

I wonder if anyone can help with a very frustrating problem I have that I've searched for solutions, unsuccessfully all over the web concerning the loss of all (ring, alarm, key clicks) tones, vibration and speakerphone (although I can hear talk when I speak with someone)

Basics

SPV c500, Win mobile 2003 SE, Version 4.21.1088 (Bulid 14217)

It may be coincidence but I was using TomTom Mobile 5 in France a few weeks ago during which I got a phone call. Following the call I went back into TomTom and after a short while noticed that I was no longer getting audio directions. I carried on to finish my journey and afterwards realised that the ring tones on the phone were no longer working either. I checked and made some changes to my [Normal] profile as perhaps it had (somehow) changed and found that the phone wasn't vibrating either even though all the settings in the sounds and profile should be fine for ringing. No alarm tones or key clicks either. I also had the idea of trying the speaker phone and that doesn't work either. However, I can hear a caller fine if I make or receive a call once I've "picked it up" in normal mode.

I wondered if there could be an issue with the "part" of the speaker that plays tones (I assume that it may be made of two sub-speakers, one for calls and one for tones played out loud / speakerphone) but it's a coincidence that the vibrate has stopped too which may indicate that it could be non-HW related, eg registry setting or something.

Additional comments

- I hadn't opened up the phone before it happened or changed the case so the vibrate motor is there (I've opened it up since and all contacts to the speaker/vibrate motor are clean and seem fine)

- All sound settings are set to ring out

- I don't use a plug-in headset so I don't think it's the stuck headset plug issue talked about elsewhere

- It happened during the use of TomTom so I'm wondering if there's been some registry corruption during the incomming call

- I've done a hard reset on the phone (also with "Clean Reg Hive" and "Format Par") and this hasn't fixed it.

So I'm not sure what else to try to either determine whether it's HW or settings issue and how to fix it. Any help or more diags I can do would be appreciated. Any, questions, let me know. Sorry for the long posting but I'm trying to give all the facts and investigation so far .

The phone is well and truely silent

Thanks

Hello there,

there are a number of tutorial threads, here's one ...

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?p...grade_to_WM2003

and in fact the ROM is available from Orange :

http://fteb.orange.fr/monmobile/faq_spvc50...2.2.1_Ship2.exe

As I said this has NOT fixed the audio issue but I seem to have my vibrate back at least so I'm counting my blessings until I get new leads from the forums or pop the case off again to have another look inside ;) I've not used this method as I have my own 2003SE backup but good luck !!

Hey guys, I had the same problem, sounds worked for ringtones when calls were coming in, but I couldn't get sound to work from WMP and such. To fix the problem all I had to do is hit the "earpiece volume" button on the left hand side of the phone towards the top. Crank that all the way back up to full and your sound should be back!
