I've updated my sp5m to the new ROM when it was first available...

Now after a month or so, Im a bit disappointed...

With this ROM:

- PIE is still as slow as hell, many times it hangs for as long as 1 minute while rendering the page, and slows down the entire phone

- in PIE, many times the "2" key scrolls up, but also triggers a link of its choice, one must go up with the joystick.....

- counting today, it's the 3rd time that the phone fails to boot up, with no reason, it sticks the "HTC Innovation" logo, and I have to pull out the battery

- I started the Opera installation CAB and then canceled it before choosing the destination..... now my phone memory has gone to 4mb free (before, it was 12mb) and I can't find whats eating it.....

- WiFi overall stability (software side), as well, decreased:

-- being 5 meters away from the router, sometimes it loses the connection with no reason, it won't regain even going to settings and manually reconnecting, and a wifi-powercycle is needed.

-- sometimes especially with Opera, the wifi simply dies while remaining connected to the router.

-- after switching off the wifi, and after the display has gone standby, if you wake up the phone (to do anything, even to watch the clock), there's 50% chance that also Wifi and Bluetooth wake up on their own.

-- also when turning on Wifi, many times Apps still use gprs (mail client, PIE, opera) .. however a wifi power-cycle is needed.

-- TCPMP managed to freeze the whole phone a couple times, when exiting after having listened to a streaming shoutcast radio.

Well

Especially the WiFi area, all is going well in your phones?

I can confirm this bug on a 8310 with i-mate ROM.

Another bugs I have found:

If you put the phone in flight mode and then choose flight mode off, the WIFI, for some reason, goes on, but the flight mode is not turned off. I had to take out the battery and then start again to get this to work.

After trying the new ROM for one day, I can honestly say that I like a couple of things with the new wifi application.

-You can actully see the strength of the wifi signal in the list over available networks.

-With wififofum I can now get a radar screen over the available networks, with my own network near the origo of the radar screen. This wasnt possible before I updated the ROM. And I dont have GPS connected to my phone.. So I guess they improved the GSM cell network information reception into the phone?

yea, I noticed it too....

yes but the indication is not accurate, going into wifi status and scrolling down gives the realtime figure...

The majority of the time, the icons in the wifi list displays almost full reception even when the WiFi can't attach due to poor reception .....

Sometimes it's reversed, it displays a close-to-null reception, while the phone is only 5 metres away from the router and connects in a snap.

yes I saw but the radar is very imprecise, the only 2 intermediate position it can do is close to the origin, or away, close to the border....

it should do a better scaling...

You know it's weird, after I first installed the update, I could have sworn WiFi was activating itself after I had turned it off. But it's never done that to me since...

And I haven't had any problems with range or dropped connections at all. In fact I've been very happy with the way WiFi has been working on the phone. Only thing I don't like is that, when turned on but gone into sleep mode, it activates whenever the backlight is activated despite the fact that the keypad is locked - so it ends up getting activated a lot when it's just on my belt... which is a bit rediculous.

As for PIE problems, well: Yes it does slow down when viewing very large pages - but what do you expect given the limted RAM and processing speed? Also the "2" activating links on the page, there's not really anyway around that, if developers assign a hotkey on their page, I'd rather IE not ignore it.

For the Opera installation, check the \Windows\AppMgr folder for leftover cabs, etc.

Mine has never had a problem starting up... I'd guess it has to do with a 3rd party app you've installed.

i-mate SP5 with AKU2 and A2DP

I still think it's a bug, because even when viewing the same page, sometimes it does take a lot, sometimes instead it doesn't hang at all.

And, this aimed to windows mobile in general, when an app like PIE sinks the CPU, one can quickly return to the home screen, but it takes 1000x times to enter the start menu and scroll down to the task manager... only to discover then, that the task manager doesn't start because of the hung app taking all the cpu cycles...

IN other words if a program hangs, you'll probably need to shut down the phone, or even pull the battery out.

Its not like in windows , where the task manager starts with high priority and has a dedicated keystroke... in WM the whole start menu and task manager have low priority, or maybe only normal, preventing their use when they're most needed ;)

yes but opera doesn't do this!

and why only the "2" key may trigger an action, and not 1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0?

and who is designing their websites taking into account numeric shortcuts?

For the Opera installation, check the \Windows\AppMgr folder for leftover cabs, etc.
already checkd it and it's empty, and yes I set the options to show all files :P Edited by thenext1

Hmm, can't really comment on this as it's never happened to me... Even on large sites, it usually just takes a few secs then it renders okay. The only time PIE has ever "crashed" on me and not allowed me to open anything else was on a page with some complicated/misbehaving javascript.

The other numeric keys can trigger an action too. Windows Live Mail beta on MSN Mobile does this, for example.

already checkd it and it's empty, and yes I set the options to show all files ;)

Well in that case I don't know :P

Did you try searching for *opera*.* files?

Text in Google Maps is now totally illegible (too small) making such a great application worthless. I want the old Java version back!

Good point - forgot about that as I haven't used Google Maps in a while. I bet there is a way to change the font size in the registry like the previous version, we just need to figure out what the names of missing values are...

I did more, i searched for "*.*" files and then sorted them by size.... all relevant files are on the storage card... my space is being eaten by nothing ;)
