Guest jesty Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 (edited) I've been trawling forums all day before I flash my C600 with an Imate ROM, and I want to run the procedure past people who've done it before I do because I don't want to shag it up. I've already app∼ unlocked the phone, and the CID is in Super 11111 mode. All feedback on the below greatly appreciated: 1: iMate SP5 ROM or SP5m ROM? (As far as I can tell, the SP5m is the C550 equivalent, so I'd be better off with the SP5?) 2: Are any standard Orange SPV C600 features lost by using the iMate ROM? 3: is there any way to reverse this, ie: is there a copy of the original Orange ROM anywhere? I don't really care unless the answer to number 2 was yes. 4: does the ROM update wipe the entire device? does it affect the miniSD card in any way, or just the internal storage? I think the question here is, other than getting the latest, ... What do you hope to gain with an SP5 ROM ? What is it that is missing or ... @1... dunno.. @2... see... so then why upgrade.. ? @3... Orange just released a new rom some weeks ago, so yes. BUT will it work coming from a NON-orange rom? @4... YES and NO in short. Your SD is not affected, you internal mem is. oh and yeah your phone is wiped. advice... BACKUP !
Guest jesty Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) Well I've gone ahead and done it now - I felt more confident after I found and followed the guide to backing up the Typhoon ROM here, but I'll answer this anyway. TomTom Mobile 5.20 runs stable on the imate ROM on a C600. I can tell you from first hand experience that there is nothing stable about running it on the factory shipped Orange ROM. Now having done this, I can also tell you that it is fully stable on the iMate ROM. There's also the added benefit of removing the Orange branding, which makes the interface look a bit neater, and a whole lot more responsive. Shorter startup/shutdown times too. YOu couldnt tell me what Rom you used could you? as i have a SPV C600 orange monthly, i would like all the logos' removed, also i would like to use my Vodafone sim in it... so where can i unlock the phone?
Guest Potatohead Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 Hi, My trial and (numerous errors) has led me to the following 1: ROM i-mate_SP5_NRE_1.5.333.0.exe runs the cleanest. If you install the SP5m Rom your button mapping will be wrong. The more recent Imate ROM has caused me a few bluetooth issues with TomTom M5 so reverted back to the one above. 2: Loses all the orange nastiness and is much faster with less bugs, I never used any orange specific features though as i'm running it on Dual sim with 2 other networks. so I don't know if there were any useful ones on board. Might be worth making a backup of all your GPRS & MMS Settings before flashing. 3:There is currently an orange ROM upadate on their website which you could download and keep as a "get out of jail" card, but it is the AKU2 Version and is an absolute arse to get rid of once you've installed it (but it is possible - see my other post today) 4: It wipes the entire device, so ensure you do a full backup sync with outlook first. As for the SD, I always remove mine first anyway as a precaution so don't know if its affected by the process. Hope this helps :)
