Guest marcdbl Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Since my new imate sp5 has WiFi, I'd like to use it to access network shares so I can stream mp3s to it around the house. So for example \\servername\share\music.mp3 Has anyone found a way to do this? It was possible to browse network shares on my PocketPC phone, can it be done on a Smartphone? Cheers, marc
Guest hyedipin Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 (edited) Resco Explorer maybe? worst case, you just run a simple http server on your PC, and save your winamp playlist as your home page (for fanciness, you can even set up DNS and go direclty to your pc with a name) so http://yourip/playlist.html would probably let you play mp3s in your smartphone wmp, or stream wiuth WMS. Unfortunately neither of those suggestions work: Resco Explorer doesn't do it. Using a webserver requires that the entire mp3 is downloaded first, it doesn't stream. Edited April 28, 2006 by marcdbl
Guest hyedipin Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 You are right, I just did the same thing and it doesn't work (I wonder why I wasn't notified of your reply)... I ran xaamp on my laptop and tried the same thing, no luck. If there is a way to run Flash on PIE then we can try that, maybe create a flash playlist and do it. I tried with quicktime, but no luck with that either.
Guest jimbouk Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 One option is to run a network ready file explorer like VM netbrowser (if they have a smartphone version) - or simply use myorb. It's a free media server application that runs on your home pc, and you can access your music, movies, even live tv (if you have a tv decoder in your pc) to your device (or any net enabled machine). Have a look here
Guest tfowle Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 There is a service that allows you to stream your mp3's and share photos over the web. www.orb.com Seems to work ok in my experience. Ty
