Since my new imate sp5 has WiFi, I'd like to use it to access network shares so I can stream mp3s to it around the house.

So for example \\servername\share\music.mp3

Has anyone found a way to do this?

It was possible to browse network shares on my PocketPC phone, can it be done on a Smartphone?

Cheers,

marc

Resco Explorer maybe?

worst case, you just run a simple http server on your PC, and save your winamp playlist as your home page (for fanciness, you can even set up DNS and go direclty to your pc with a name) so http://yourip/playlist.html would probably let you play mp3s in your smartphone wmp, or stream wiuth WMS.

Unfortunately neither of those suggestions work:

Resco Explorer doesn't do it.

Using a webserver requires that the entire mp3 is downloaded first, it doesn't stream.

You are right, I just did the same thing and it doesn't work (I wonder why I wasn't notified of your reply)...

I ran xaamp on my laptop and tried the same thing, no luck.

If there is a way to run Flash on PIE then we can try that, maybe create a flash playlist and do it. I tried with quicktime, but no luck with that either.

One option is to run a network ready file explorer like VM netbrowser (if they have a smartphone version) - or simply use myorb. It's a free media server application that runs on your home pc, and you can access your music, movies, even live tv (if you have a tv decoder in your pc) to your device (or any net enabled machine).

Have a look here

There is a service that allows you to stream your mp3's and share photos over the web.

www.orb.com

Seems to work ok in my experience.
