No Icons on M5000 Today screen

How do I restore the shortcut icons to my Today screen? At present I have a crisp, bright display that is uncluttered to say the least.

I've tried both soft and hard resets with no success. I'd now like to get a bit more scientific about it - I'm very skilled at reinstalling my applications, ringtones etc., but the prospect of going through the whole process again is just too much.

How did you get rid of the icons? What today screen are you using? You say a hard reset didn't restore them? It should restore the Orange homescreen in all it's glory. What ROM are you using?
