Guest Chunky Monkey Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I backup my M500 to my PC everynight using ActiveSync via a USB cable. How can I back up my contacts list? There is a option in the configeration of ActiveSynic but it needs to connect to a server?? I could do with backing them up as its just taken me the last 3 hours to program in all the names & addresses, websites & email addresses of everyone in my contact lists, for the 3rd time & its getting a little tiresome. lol
Guest fraser Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 (edited) How do you "backup using activcesync"? Are you using the inbuilt backup? Surely that does contacts? I'd like to hope so! ;) Standard backup advice follows: TEST YOUR BACKUP. ALWAYS!! Do a reset and make sure it works. You'd be surprised how often people spend time maintaining backup sets that would never work if they were actually needed, or that aren't backing up important things. Also, if you are using ActiveSync, you should never need to enter your contacts more than once. If you need to reset the phone, just resync it with the same PC and "combine contacts". Guest Confucious Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Activesync syncs with outlook on any PC. Do you have a partnership set up with your PC? If so just select contacys as one of the things to sync. If it is set to sync contacts with an exchange server and you don't have one then delete the server from AS on your phone.
Guest Chunky Monkey Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 If I open AS click tools > options contacts is in the list but doesn't have a tick box, does this mean its backing it up??
Guest Confucious Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 If it's not ticked then I doubt very much if it's synching - easiest way to check is change something on your device and sync and then see if it changes on your PC. If it isn't then I'd delete the connection on your device then reconnect and see if you get the check box then.
Guest jimbouk Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 If its asking for a server, then did you select sync with a server when you first connected the device? Confucious, he say try changing an item and syncing to see if it updates the record in outlook, he right. But it sounds like you should delete all partnerships in activesync on the pc and then connect again, but this time do not select sync with a server. AS will then ask you what you want to sync between outlook on your pc and the device.
Guest Shuflie Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Perhaps you're all asking the wrong question. Did you install outlook from the CD that came with the phone chunky monkey? If you didn't then activesync won't find it on your PC and give you an option to sync with it.
Guest Chunky Monkey Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 right, oks I think we have one to many terms here. My phone is sync-ing with my PC fine. My phone is backing up to my PC fine. However the last time I had to do a hard rest on my phone I lost all of my contacts. & it did not restore them from the backup on the PC. If I go to Tools > Options in the Synic Options list, Contacts is listed but there is no tick box next to it. I am reluctent to delete the partnership as last time I did this it took me a age to get all the phone name back right again. The only thing I have installed from the CD is active sync. The problem I am having is I don't think its backing or syncing my contacts up.
