I have always had my SPV C500 set up with the screen constantly on (without the backlight).

I've upgraded to an M600 (HTC Prophet) and really miss this feature! There doesn't seem to be any way in the menu system to set this up.

Does anyone know of a way to enable this?

Also, viewing the screen in bright light is much worse than on my C500. Is this likely to be because of the manufacturer-fitted screen protector? Has anyone removed this? If so, did this make much of an improvement?

Thanks

Z

Seems to work on mine if I go into Power settings and uncheck the box for 'turn off device if not used for'. The backlight settings will turn the backlight off after 30 secs on battery and then you can lock the keypad so it doesn't respond to taps while in your pocket.

That should work...

Thanks for your reply. What you describe above is how I currently have it set up, but as soon as I lock the keypad, the screen goes off.

With the C500 you lock the keys and the LCD remains on. This means you can take the phone out of your pocket and don't need to touch any buttons to see if you have any missed calls/messages etc.

So is there any way to keep the screen on, whilst the keypad is locked?

Thanks.

Aha! I see what you mean; pardon my stupidity... I'm guessing it must be a hard-wired feature because it has now happened on mine across 2 different firmwares. However I've noticed that it doesn't happen when on external power so one would presume that there's a registry entry somewhere that governs the behaviour...

Maybe its because the device's main input is via the screen!

If you set the screen to remain on, the digitizer will be active and any touching of the screen (eg whilst in your pocket) will run apps/call people etc.

The digitizer is the other main reason why the screen isn't great in sunlight - you can of course increase the backlight which makes quite a bit of difference.
