Hiya guys

Well its been good week. You've all been really helpfull....Thanks

At first i was thinking of giving the phone back!!! Especially when i heard about the 3g version coming out!!

But T mobile are doing well and they sent out the settings to get my GPRS going. Its pretty quick from what i remember in the old days of it first coming out!!

Been going on the net and chatting to peeps on MSN :-)

One thing though. I was in town and tried the WiFi. It found two hot spots that were available. But when i tried to connect it would connect via GPRS and no the WiFi

What am i doing wrong??

I've heard that the T mobile rom isn't very good.

My version is 1.6.2.4, Date 11 Nov 05

So guess its the first one!!!

Hope you can help

Smoke

Make sure that;

a. you have permission to access the hot spot

b. your WiFi is turned on.

If it's a hotspot provided by a telecom company, then there are chances that you will need to log in (either by submitting a CC number, getting credit, etc.), or you will need to be a member with the company (for example, in Australia, Telstra have broadband, and if you are a customer, then your WiFi charges will be processed onto your broadband bill).

Another thing to verify is whether or not your WiFi is turned on, and whether or not you are actually connected to the WLAN's. This means going into your Network Cards, and holding down the stylus on the WLAN of your choice, and selecting connect. If it says connected, then you're on the right path, however, if it says Available after previously saying Connecting, then chances are there is a configuration error (tap the WLAN and change any WEP/WPA etc. settings where needed).

If it is saying that it is connected, but keeps trying to use your GPRS, then... Well, it must be dying due to either a weak signal or simply not being connected in the first place.

I hope this sheds some light!

I can definately tell you I had it turned on!!

It did a search and said some were available. I held the stylus down and clicked connect but nothing happened. How do i know what to change the WEP/WPA settings too?? I'm walking around town and obviously dont have any idea...

I'm mainly looking for free ones to use in Bristol town centre. I've been told theres a few around.

Thanks

The list of access points will tell you if they're secured (and thus need a key) or not secured. It will ask for the key when you click connect if its needed.

Once you have connected, go to wifi settings and look on the advanced tab. If there's an IP address (probably something like 192.168.x.x) then you have connected. Otherwise open the web browser and it may redirect you to a greeting page where they explain how to use their hot spot.
