Got an MDA Vario today and have been trying to get the damn thing to sync with my PC without much success.

The PC recognises the Vario and Activesync's little icon goes green indicating a connection, then the Activesync window pops up and I get a message on screen saying "retrieving settings"..... And then nothing. Nothing else happens. No syncronisation, no access to my new toy from the PC, Nada.

Any ideas chaps? I've tried resetting both PC and Vario, tried un and re-installing outlook and activesync... No joy so far and I am getting quite frustrated.

got the same problem as you do before, the wm5 phones activesync have issues with the firewall using the cable/cradle. if you've got some bluetooth dongle or your pc is bt enabled try syncing thru bt.

i tried it and solves my syncing problem, i know it's weird. ;)

Thanks for that mate... Bit rubbish though if I cant sync using my cable. Thats a bit naff really!

UPDATE: I switched off the windows firewall and suddenly it started working. What are Microsoft playing at if their own firewall stops Activesync working properly?? Grr....

Never mind, problem solved now!

Magic, I thought when I saw this tip - but then realised I use XP SP1 (which has no firewall) ... so that can't be the issue and I am getting EXACTLY the same as you were.

Any suggestions anyone?

do you got any antivirus? if you do try to disable it first then sync.

i don't use my usb cable anymore to sync my vario with my pc, always sync thru bt now. i'm still using my cable to transfer files and charging my vario (which is kinda awkward). ;)

No antivirus running and firewall also disabled... still no joy :(

Activesync picks up and connects to c500 no problem at all.
