Guest Parre Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Ok Gentlemen & ladies, now that i have installed the latest ROM i wonder if anyoen can help me setup the push-mail working. If we have some info here for example: EMail: [email protected] email user: guest email pass: 123 Exchangeserver: sever.exch Blackberry server: server.bb Domain: ser.server.com Serviceprovider: Vodafone/Telenor SE How do i setup my Qtek 8310 so its acting as a BB? Does anyone have a guide? I have called the service provider and asked them to add the BB service to my phone number. Then i have asked our IT team to add me to the bb server and everything is ok from my companys side. We have several already connected to BB's. I have GPRS and MMS already setup and working too. What settings do i need to do under email options? If i connect to my active sync i can download my messages from the exchange server and they end up in the "Outlook Email" folder that is default on the phone and since there are no account settings or anything here i dont this there is anything i should change here. Active Sync menu: Server address: server.exch seems to work when i was connected via BT and sync so i guess that would be correct. SSL or not i guess i can trail and error here Username: guest Password: 123 Domain: ser.server.com tick the save passowrd button Then i choose only email to sync There are some settings under email and under advanced but nothing i find usfull. Then i click finished and try to Sync. says sync folder under exchange server and the i get attention required. Says server could not be reached support code: 0X80072EE7. Its not working, so i think well what about the connection settings. But i guess thats only when its in a cradle so i should leave it as USB. I cant find anything else wrong or any other settings that i forgott and the phone seems to connect since the little G displays top right. Could it be that i should use the blackberry server instead of the exchange server or is it something wrong with the doman, should i leave that. Would preciate if anyone that got their QTEK 8310 running withg blackberry function would be able to help me with their settings. Thanks for reading this long text.
Guest jimbouk Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 (edited) Can't help with Blackberry but... If you want pushemail via the MS system, you need to a) to have an exchange server 2003 sp2, b)get your exchange server account set up for mobile access (by your IT people), c) tell activesync to sync with the exchangeserver, d) set schedule to deliver mail "as items arrive" oh and (as that error means that you aren't actually connected to the internet): e) you need to have a working GPRS connection to the web - not just the G icon, but the G icon with two arrows beneath it (check you can browse the web over GPRS). Thanks for the reply. I checked with the IT ppl today and apparently they have SP1 installed only, says there is a function that supports push mail in SP2. But he says this push mail is not the same as with the blackberry which i thought. Do i need to subscribe to the blackberry service from my service provider or not to be able to use psuh-email? What is the different between blackberry and push-email? Is it same services which compete against eachother? Im confused lol I can connect to internet with my GPRS, so that is not a problem. With ActiveSYnc and BT or USB i can sync my email from the exchange server. I set the schedule deliver to "as items arrive" too. When i click the button it says checking folders under exchange server name and it seems like it trys to connect. Argh!! damn it ;)

Your IT people are wrong, the service is very much the same as the blackberry service.

How will the Service provider push out email to me then? Yes if i use BT or USB i can sync and dl the emails and everything so from that end no problem. Yeah they dident know much about it. I called the Qtek support today and he told me that without the IT guys installing the Exchange SP2 i wont be able to use the direct push service, s***. I thought it was possible, but the good news is that they are installing it on the new server end of the month hehehe. Then hopefully i will be able to try it ;) Anyway i received a few nice links from the support + some i found my self that has some good info for the ppl here maybe: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...p2mobility.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/technet/itsolutio...p_overview.mspx How to configure DIrect Push http://thelazyadmin.com/index.php?/archive...irect-Push.html
Guest sporkguy Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 You should get your IT guys to get off their fat rears and do their job. SP2 should be installed anyway, if not for push mail, but for the security side of things.
Guest jimbouk Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Particularly as SP2 came out about six months ago and was not described as an optional update! The good news is that there is nothing for them to do with your account if its already set up for mobile access - SP2 installation on the server sets all accounts previously set up for mobile access to use directpush by default.

If you can do that then you are half way to push e-mail as it is an extension of that functionality to enable essentially mail checking with a heartbeat to the server. It isn't really push, it is more polling. The push e-mail doesn't need the service provider, but only needs some interaction between the exchange server (OWA) and your handset.. the rest is magic... You don't need a blackberry service subscription to use that. As for telling your IT guys to get off their fat rears, I think the comment is unfair. You don't install patches and updates as soon as they arrive in a real corporate environment as you have SLAs to maintain.

Guest loki_f Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Six months isn't exactly as soon as they arrive... Yeah true, but anyone who has ever installed an update that crippled their computer should understand that you don't do it, especially not to your mail service which potentially could be supporting hundreds or thousands of users unless you are willing to stake your reputation that nothin gwill go wrong, you will get no degradation of performance etc. A lot of companies believe that if it ain't broke then don't fix it. And although SP2 for exchange2K3 is very cool, there is not really a compelling case for it's urgent install... most companies are still on XPSP1, and that is a more important update....
