Thanks for the update!

I installed and it works fine... ;)

What are the major upgrades in this version? I figured I might see a more dramatic difference, going from 1.2 to 2.0. Still, it seems fast and works solidly.

I just with Opera would roll out Opera mini version 8.5 for Windows Mobile 5. Seems like it would be SO popular. Tabbed browsing, downloads, landscape mode... ahhh that would be so nice.

I'll probably stick with PIE until then. Some have said that the PIE in AKU2 is much better. Not sure if it has the features mentioned above or not tho.

Cheers,

Looks like apparently you can open bookmarks with the sequence * which is a good development! I haven't found any other news..

Bah, its horrible in terms of ergonomics.

Fonts are simply awful-looking, regardless of size, they look like crude scribbles. No full screen - space is eaten by additional title & menu line.

URL entry - no comments.

Its only useful if you want to economize on traffic.

Regarding font: what do you expect? The Nina system font is also awful if you're talking in those terms.

The Wikipedia and Google entries are very good - you don't have to press ok after you type the word you want to search so you get where you want faster.

From the smartphonethoughts.com website:

"The new version adds a number of new features including: downloading content directly to your phone, new skins, and advanced searching"

It's not possible to download things to your phone with Opera - when trying to save an image it's actually opening the PIE instead... And how to save whole webpages? Not possible.

New skins is a nice feat.

Advanced searching? I only see the Google search. And anyway - what purpose is it in having an advanced search in Opera when you can as easily visit a meta search engine?

Since I downloaded the new AKU2 ROM, the font used in the status field in the bottom has been too small.. This can partially be solved in the new Opera release, but the font on the start logo screen is still the small one - and there is something wrong with J2ME fonts in general in the new ROM.

I expect it to look at least as good as Segoe Cleartype fonts in PocketIE & other native apps.

Currently fonts in Opera Mini are visibly worse in quality. Granted, this must be mostly the fault of JVM (same as with bad text input ergonomics), but who cares...
