Urgent help needed. Regarding Sprite Backup Restore.

Please help me. After getting my phone replaced i restored my phone data from my previous c550. Everything has gone fine, system data, contacts, programs and even ringtones were restored and its as if i never got it replaced. Except for one thing. Messaging. I observed the restore process and could see that it was restoring all my sms messages (it did drag after completion and it spent a long time "patching sms database") but since it's done this i can no longer open the messaging app. It briefly shows the loading circle and does nothing. I can't access it through other methods either, not through the homescreen or starting a message through the contacts menu, all has the same result. I don't want to hard reboot as i have important text messages such as registration codes in there as well as personal messages i don't want to lose. Can anyone help?
