Replace orange rom with 'generic' rom

Given my sync problems with my M600 appear to be a result of Orange's 'customisation' is it possible to flash the M600 with a generic HTC Rom (imate?)?

What would i lose if i did so? Presumably the orange 'theme' and today page would go but they're easily replaced with something similar. I suspect i'd need to punch in the message centre, voicemail and data numbers as well but that's not too difficult

You wouldn't need to punch anything in as Imate rom's come with all the main operator settings as cabs.

However, you would need to get round Orange's device locks (to enable the device to accept the rom) and would lose any Orange warranty or insurance with the phone.

The ROM lock can be removed using Lokiwiz from XDA Developers forum (you need to register to download it)

I've changed my Dopod 818 (Prophet) to an Imate JAMin, and my T-Mob Vario (Wizard) to an Imate K-JAM, both of which were very easy.

See my reply in this thread - it's actually easier to modify the generic ROM update rather than your phone. Lokiwiz doesn't work on Orange M600s with an SPL version of 2.x (which I'll bet is yours).

The CAB files of operator settings are installed through an option screen on first boot with the new ROM (you choose your operator from the list and the relevant CAB file is installed automatically).

Hope that's of some help.
