Try disabling your firewall and see if that clears the problem. The other simple solution is to reboot both phone and PC as ActiveSync v4 is very temperamental.

There is a troubleshooting guide on the Microsoft website if that doesn't work but I ended up uninstalling AS, doing a file search to remove absolutely everything with ActiveSync in the name and starting again from scratch.

Whatever you get to work, memorise it, because you'll probably have to do it again some time ;)

I had the unknown RNDIS device show up in my device manager. Every time that I tried to update the driver for this unknown RNDIS device I got stuck. The problem was that the driver update was looking for a file rndismpx.sys in the /Program Files/Microsoft ActiveSync/drivers folder and it was not there.

I found on a thread from the xda-developers forum that the file should be part of Win XP SP2 and they had success by doing a complete reformat of the hard drive to reinstall XP and then AS4.1.

With the hope of saving myself 3 hours I searched my hard drive for this .sys file. (make sure that you enable the search to look at system files) I found it in c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers. I copied it to the ActiveSync\drivers folder and I was back in business. The update stopped again because it could not find file usb2083x.sys in the same as folder. I searched again and again I found it in the WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder. This time I directed the updater directly to this folder. I had to click through at least 2 warnings - one about the sys file being in a protected folder and one about the new hardware not being from a recognized source (I can't remember the exact text of either) - and the driver update was successful.

My device manager immediately changed to show a Windows Mobile-based Device, and Active Sync recognized the connection and started the New Connection Wizard.

Hope this helps!

Been Having the same problem with my c600 now running the NRE imate rom. Was running, but, alas no more, (happy I kept hold of my c500).

Been getting cannot find files for Generic RNDIS; spotted that is an app couple of weeks back. quote Peekie "usb switch included, set the option to serial and the phone will connect without a problem".

Have done a search on imate (c600) for exe's but have no idea of the name path to select from the 98 found; if you read this Peekie, (or a n other) could you post the file name and anything else I might need; please.

Regards all. Poleaxe

Update: downloaded zip file from Peekie's post (other topic) No joy!! Any suggests anyone; What is this bit about set 'phone to serial' I'm bored with it now, so i'm off to pick up my new airbrush and compressor and FINALLY get something CONSTRUCTIVE done. Bye for now

Oops! Looks as if i'm gonna have a go as Warea did above. Cheers Warea. in anticipation! not now though; off to the Black Country. (that's west Mids).
