Guest New-to-GSM Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Hey guys, As my name might indicate, I'm fairly new to the whole GSM/Smartphone world and am trying to conduct ample research before making my first purchase. After speaking with people and reading reports on the internet, I've narrowed my search down to a few phones and wanted to see what members of this forum who know much more about the topic than I think. The phones that I am interested in are: I-mate Jamin/Q-tek s200 E-Ten G500 Mio A701 I did notice that there are some smaller phones (and size is appealing) such as the Q-tek 8500 and the I-mate SP5 but I'm worried that they won't have enough memory (I'd ideally like to be able to have at least 2gb). Any comments, suggestions, or insights would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Guest ricardo the fish Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Firstly, welcome to the site. As to your question, are you looking for a phone or pocket PC? It would appear from your suggestions that you are looking for a pocket PC phone edition (or PPCPE for short). If you haven't made your mind up then I suggest looking here: http://www.modaco.com/Talking-Point-Pocket...ne-t208331.html This should help you to decide between Smartphone and PPCPE (hopefully, of course it may well just confuse you more!). You mention that you need a minimum of 2GB memory, this is only achieved by inserting the revelent memory card (SD, miniSD or MircoSD card depeding on device). The capacity of memory cards is ever increasing, I think there are 4GB miniSD cards out there! I know this may not be massivly helpful but i'm sure if you list some of your requirements/uses for the phone others may be able to help you more. An example of a current request for info to help in the desision making process can be found here: http://www.modaco.com/Which-smartphone-is-...me-t240521.html I currently am perfectly happy with the Smartphone form, but then I am always temped by PPCPE devices. The HTC Wizard (T-mobile MDA Vario) look very popular indeed, as does the Jamin. hope this helps, a little at least ;) Ricardo
Guest New-to-GSM Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Thanks for the help! To tell you the truth, I'd probably prefer to buy a Smartphone because of the size, but I like some of the additional applications available in the PPC. I read through the link that you copied regarding "Smartphone or PPC" and got a bit lost to tell you the truth. The main functions that I would like to have consolidated in the device would be: Phone (GSM Quadband) Email/Internet (WiFi) MP3 Player Basic Camera and all of this at a reasonable size (ie, something that fits in your pocket easily and doesn't cause people to gawk when you bring it out). The Qwerty keyboard is not a must for me as I hope not to be doing too much "typing" on it and I know it will only add to the thickness of the phone. I'm guessing there are other characteristics that I should know, but at this point I think I'm a bit ignorant. Any thoughts?
Guest ricardo the fish Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 New-to_GSM, if you are looking at a phone with e-mail, MP3 player etc.. then may I suggest the I-mate SP5 or the SP5m they are Windows Mobile 5, so have push e-mail, they have Windows media player (although you can download other media players eg, TCPMP).
Guest xda_gangsta Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 one thing you gotta make sure is that the device runs on Windows Mobile. I think the i-mate JAM is good if u want a pocket pc, maybe the HTC wizard cuz its kinda small/has keyboard, but Im more of a regular phone style device, such as the SPV C600, I think the SPV C500 is the best choice if u have unlimited data like me ;)
