MDA Compact II & THB Car Kit

Hi

Another Newbie here - just got my MDA Compact II on t-mobile, with web n walk, co-pilot etc. - after much looking around and reading many reviews - many thanks to a number of the contributors to modaco...and I must say I've been well pleased with the device, until that is...

I've a problem that someone might be able to help me with - I've had a THB Car Kit for a number of years and have changed the cradle as my phones have changed (Treo 600 and SPV C500 most recently) - just bought the MDA Compact Cradle, run the software patch from THB, and nothing, not even an electronic sausage by way of sounds from the MDA.

I can make calls, talk to people but I can't hear anything in return, either using the wired handsfree headset, the freebie bluetooth headset, the built in earpiece or surprisingly enough the car kit... kinda limits it's useability.

Have sent requests for help to THB and UK distributor, but as yet no response - anyone any ideas??

Or any ways to un-install said software patch...

Had a response from THB, who after advising that the cradle would fit, physically, have said that I'm quite correct that it's not compatible with the MDA Compact II only the MDA Compact - just got to figure out how to remove the car kit patch files, or do a factory reset, as the reset socket on the bottom, doesn't seem to do anything....

The reset socket at the bottom is just a soft reset, basically a reboot.

Has the patch added itself to add/remove programs?

No didn't seem to log there - after speaking to the guy at the T-Mobile Shop in Gloucester, who by the way has been the most helpful person I've found in any phone retailer anywhere...he told me the restore to factory settings routine, which is to hold the camera and the voice recording button down then press the recessed re-boot button, you then get a message asking if you want to re-set and you press the green phone key - hey presto my MDA is back!

Luckily I'd not had it too long and had recently synced with my MAC - yes, I hope that's not a swear word, so all I've had to do is re-load co-pilot and re-do my e-mail settings and all is good, thus far...

Damnit, I wish I had of found your post when you first put it here..

I am having exactly the same problem.. however, I figured out how to remove the patch without doing a hard reset. It was a simple matter of removing the newly installed DLL's - Windows protection then automatically reinstalled the old original sound/battery drivers. ( battdvr.dll and wavedev.dll found in Windows folder) You may need to do this more than once, and a rest is required. You will also need to install 'GSFinder' to see the hidden files.

I really want to be able to play sounds and MP3s through the carkit (also a THB Bury) - I tested it with my friends MDA compact I and it works perfectly...he can play MP3s / system sounds / GPS sounds..etc. perfectly..the stereo mutes how it should and plays out through the car speakers....it just refuses to work with my Compact II :)

someone needs to invent an application where you can force the stereo to mute/unmute!! :)

If you ever find a way to make this work PLEASE let me know... I will do the same.

Do you know if THB ever plan to make a patch for the compact II???

If I do, no probs, will post it up!

I'm getting the new cradle swapped by SP Comms, who are going to send me a the Trend Talk bluetooth charging cradle, which means I can use the bracket, mount etc. and hold the phone on the dash, charge it, use the micro phone etc, I'm also getting an ISO wiring loom so that I can take the phone/system sounds into the head unit, rather than use the poor THB speaker.

I'm able to select the aux input on the head unit, which I'll connect the Phone too - so who know's might be able to hear what's going on properly.java script:emoticon('%3C_%3C',%20'smid_1')

Off on hols next week, so might be a couple of weeks before I can post back with the results....

No idea about THB making a compatible cradle at the moment, however if this works OK, I won't worry to much as most phones should fit the new cradel as it's a clamp type of arrangement.

Cheers

HVS
