Guest londonspod Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 Hi everyone, I hope that this is the right section for the forum to post this. I have tried everything I know to fix my phone, but nothing has worked yet. I have an Orange SPV c500 which I have customised a lot over the last year or so since I bought it. I have put several different homescreens on the phone's internal storage area(not on its card). Whilst I was away on holiday I decided to change my homescreen to a different one(it was LCARS Star Trek homescreen in case you need to know). It has the main screen where the Start menu and Contact Menus are, but the other menus(the ones for the applications and ones for confirming commands)were using backdrops from a different them that I had on the phone, namely the 'Madagascar' theme. I didn't like that so I thought I would remove the screens that it was trying to use, leaving just the ones for the current LCARS homescreen. Unfortunately, this is where everything went wrong. I switched phone off whilst on an airplane(I forgot about the 'Flight mode' for some reason). When I switched my phone back on, it got past the boring 'Orange' screen and then went beserk and started giving errors about missing files(namely the Madagascar files that it was using for the various screens). All I could do was press 'OK' all the time and finally it went to the PIN screen and then the main homescreen. Here's the problem I have now....I can't get the Start or the Contacts menus to work at all(neither soft keys do anything now on the main homescreen). My phone keeps saying 'No Service' all I can get is other menus via the 'joystick' below the soft keys(as there are shortcuts built into the homescreen for things like MMS, SMS and e-mail)and the menu via the 'Power' key to change the profiles. Also, whenever I turn the phone on, its take at least 5 mins to 'Orange' boot up screen and ask me for my PIN. When I got home yesterday, I found I could connect my phone via Activesync and I can see the contents of my phone via the 'Explore' function in Activesync, but I don't know how this will help me. I wanted to try to reinstall the 'Madagascar' homescreen to see if this would fix things, but all I could do was transfer the ZIP file to the phone. It hasn't made a difference to the phone. I tried to do a Hard reset, but nothing happens when I follow the instructions. I have followed the instructions exactly. Is there anything I can do to fix my phone, or is it totally useless now? Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated!
Guest tsutton Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 My best advice is to backup all of your files and do a hard reset. Yes, that will wipe out all installations and changes you made but it's best to start fresh and install the applications that you want to use. It's the same with any other operating system - tweak and install too much, it mess up. While you're at it, you might want to upgrade it to the latest version which you can find at http://www.orange.co.uk/c500patch/ if you haven't done that yet.

Thanks tsutton, but like I said in my original post, I tried a Hard Reset and it didn't even allow me to do that. I pressed the two Soft keys, kept them pressed, then pressed the Power key for upto 1.5 seconds, then released the Power key(whilst still keeping the Soft Keys pressed), but nothing appeared on screen asking me to press '0' to perform a hard reset.

Would mean that you timed it incorrectly. Keep trying until you get it right. It took me a few goes for the first time until I've done it.

Sorry if I sound a bit thick, but none of the instructions I read mentioned this point.
Guest kongocui Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 ????????????????????????????????????????
Guest londonspod Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 (edited) Never mind, I found the Hard Reset instructions on here and saw that the phone had to be switched off first for it to work. Looks like my phone is ok now. I must have got the timing wrong on the power button bit! That timing issue is really annoying! Edited May 11, 2006 by londonspod
