Guest afeudale Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I upgraded my SP5m to AKU2 a few weeks back when it first came out and must say there are a LOT of bugs in it...I was hoping someone could shed light on the following issues: 1) Which ROM to use? On the imate FTP there are 3 English ROMS for the SP5m - NRE_2.6.333.1, WWE_2.5.331.2 and WWE_2.6.331.2. All were posted at the same time. I have tried all 3 with mixed results, but would like to know what the differences are? 2) My phone often gets into a state where I cannot make speed dial calls (or any outgoing calls for that matter). I can press the Dial button a hundred times and it just won't dial. I have even tried dialing in a roundabout way (selecting the contact, right softkey, dial) and it still doesn't work. If I wait for a few minutes, it will eventually come back. 3) Often the phone runs VERY slow or even freezes for a few seconds, even when doing mundane tasks such as opening the start menu or going to the home screen. Is there something wrong with my phone or is this "normal"? 4) Sometimes the phone goes into another weird state where I open the Start Menu and it says "Cannot find :MSSTART", the same for Calendar "Cannot find :MSSCALENDAR", etc. and I can basically do nothing until rebooting. Thanks!
Guest kam_ Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 The difference between them is the languages. If you want UK english use the NRE rom, if you want US english use the WWE rom. If you want other languages i can look it up for u. I've never experienced those problems.. I would suggest you confirm you are using the SP5m rom and not the SP5 one, and try it for a few days clean with no apps installed. If that works, install a few apps at a time over a few days to see which could be the problem.

I had this yesterday on my SP5 - needed to reboot to fix it. Austin.
Guest afeudale Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 kam, there are 2 versions of the NRE rom (same language) posted at the same time, any idea what the differences are?
Guest afeudale Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 guess I'm the only one with these problems?
Guest kam_ Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 There's one NRE version for SP5 and one for SP5m. Have a closer look at the name of the file.
Guest pete1909 Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 I have exactly the same problem sometimes making calls via speed dial or re-dial or anything for that mater. The other thing it does is says it's connected to a cal when it's not. ;) Is this phone too clever for itself, I need to be able to make phone calls on it first and foremost. <_<
Guest L05TPR0P43T5 Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 can someone confirm that the symptoms afeudale had (freezing of menus, going extremely slow etc) are related to the AKU2 update..? i have the SPV-C600 (on UK network Orange), got it two days ago, installed the latest AKU update from here, and my phone has been crashing extremely regulary and for no apparent reasons.. I assumed it was just my phone, and was gonna give it till the end of the week to prove itself to me (otherwise was going to take it back to the Orange shop this weekend), although if this is actually due to buggy ROM then i'll leave it be. Unless there's a solution to it that i haven't discovered yet.. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 I haven't had any problems with the Orange AKU2 ROM. You could reinstall the update and see if that clears the problem. Are you installing other software to the phone rather than the storage card ? (Sorry to point out the obvious...)
Guest L05TPR0P43T5 Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 (edited) lol dw about it.. well yea, i copy the .zip over to the storage card, extract the contents, then copy the .exe over to the phone (just like the guides i read told me to do). i haven't installed any proper software though, only thing i've tried is application-unlocking it, which won't work with the AKU update installed ;) i would like to know if it's possible to get the original ROM back on there so i can unlock it (using the dev-htcunlock thing or whatever it's called) so i can get some decent apps on my phone and use it to it's full potential... of course i'm more worried about the phone's stability/usability at the moment more than app-unlocking it! i did try 'hard reset'ting it yesterday, using a method that includes holding the softkeys while it's turned off, pressing the power button, then '0'... but that just seemed to erase everything (messages etc), which is just a soft reset isn't it? help would be appreciated! I had this issue several times. I have suspicion to XBar 3.1 that is in use in that time. After reboot no problem.
Guest joesixpack Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 I had this issue several times. I have suspicion to XBar 3.1 that is in use in that time. After reboot no problem. I can confirm I suffer from the same problem and have xbar 3.1 installed - but don't know to tell you that they are connected... I had this problem with the T-Mobile SDA ROM, and now with the imate SP5m ROM - so both ROMs show same problem (xbar 3.1 installed in both cases)... I wish this thing were debugged by someone... anyone else?
Guest flodis79 Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 I had a very strange problem with the new rom as well. Suddenly when I have had activesync on for a while, the wifi plugin is gone from the homescreen. I know that can happen even if there's not an error, because of the phone being plugged in to the usb, but this time the wifi info didn't reappear after I took out the cable. After that the wifi turned on automatically every time I started the phone, but I couldn't check networks in the vicinity, and I couldn't use the wifi at all ... Arghh.. Wififofum was working and found networks.. Anyway, I plugged in the phone to activesync again and the wifi came back... Very strange. I hope it won't happen again... :)
