Guest dishe Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I'm very annoyed that the US version of this phone, the SDA, has that hump. Yeah, I like that it gives me better reception, but has anyone found a protective case/belt clip/skin, or anything to fit my dear quasimodo here? I saw a leather one that has an open top, so that's an idea, but I don't like the look of it. There's another one
Guest hyedipin Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 No options yet.. See the other CASE+SDA topics, boxwave is working on one for the USA Hump version. No others (other than generic ones) if you find any let us know.

There's another one I found this: http://www.javoedge.com/reflexeshop/produc...&pbmId=4538 It's a silicon gel case with a cutout fot the antenna. I have a Martin & Fields one for my SMT 5600 and it's been great til recently. It's been a year so it's crumbling apart. This one looks pricey. If someone knows where to get this cheaper, let me know!
Guest grumpy_old_technobyte Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Im not a fan of the hump either. Plus Krussell doesnt make a leather case for the US SDA. The Krussell on my SMT 5600 has been a life saver. And it looks great on the Euro SDA.

Guest handjive Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Javoedge has one now. It is about time someone did! Product Page Enjoy!
Guest chaznet Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 (edited) Nice that one is being offered, but in use I've found that any and all buttons are easy to accidentally press while talking on the phone -- I'd imagine this would be something to use for travel, taking the phone out of it for general use as needed... Guest notaliberal Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 I'll be testing one of the JavoEdge skins shortly, I'll report back with my opinion regarding it's functionality as well. I have high hopes for it, they look pretty nice...
Guest notaliberal Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 (edited) Okay, got the JavoEdge frosty white skin, gave it a weeks use, and here's one guys opinion... I'll start by saying that I plan to keep this on my phone, so regardless of any "downsides" it's still worth having, in my opinion. That being said... Upsides: Feels great on the phone. Nice soft rubber feel, doesn't slip around in your pocket anymore. I was particularily skeptical about the buttons working with the case on, but I have to say, they do. They did that part very well. All the keys are totally pressable, and there's really no interference between them. In other words, when you go to hit the "5" key, it doesn't also press the neighboring key(s). I've always had problems "fat fingering" the "8" key for some reason, and I still do (always hit the "0" as well), but no more so than before. Also nice is that the skin really doesn't add that much bulk to the phone like a leather case usually does. Still sleek and skinny enough to fit nicely in the pocket. Downsides: There are a couple, but they're really not big enough to make me go without it. First and foremost, the fit of the skin is just a tiny bit off. It's just a *little* more loose than I think it ought to be, and while this does NOT affect any functionality what so ever, it does make an aesthetic difference. You can position the skin so that it's on there nicely and all the keys (on the skin) are lined up with the keys on the phone. First time you take it out of your pocket, however, they'll not be lined up anymore. I must stress though, even when they're not lined up all the keys press nicely and still no interference. It's only the multimedia and soft keys that don't line up well, or at least they're the only keys that you can SEE don't line up. I'm attaching pics to the post for you to see this. I'll say it one more time, this didn't affect functionality, it just bugs me when they're visually misaligned. Still keeping the skin on though, so it's not too big an annoyance. If they just made it a tiny bit tighter, this might not have been a problem at all. Second, and this isn't really the skins "fault", but if (or should I say when) your phone freezes, you of course have to take off the skin to pop out the battery. Obviosuly not too big a deal, just wanted to make sure I pointed it out. Third and last, and least important; Without the skin, the tornado (at least the SDA) screen is wonderfully flush with the phone, so you can easily wipe it off quickly with your shirt or whatnot. WIth the skin on, however, it is no loner flush, and you have to wipe more deliberately inside and around the now recessed screen. No biggie. So, once again, I think it's worth the $20, if you can afford it. Still would like to (and will be) suggest to them that they make it just a tiny bit tighter, so hopefully they're still at a point in their production process to make changes like that. I guess that's all for now... Jeff Edited September 5, 2006 by notaliberal
Guest gdimaano Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 I just received the Glove Fit case from Fortte. I am not a fan of leather cases, but this case is exactly what I would have designed had I been given the chance. Very tight fitting, fixed clip, full vinyl across the keypad and screen, die cut opening for the joystick. I would like the clip to sit higher on the case, but aside from that the case is perfect. Give it a try, I highly recommend it. I'd post pix, but I don't have my digicam with me right now. www.fortte.com G
Guest da_mayhem Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Hey guys check this out.. i like this more for my SDA..looks like the keypads are exposed and i think better than the one from JAVOEDGE.. Flexiskin from Boxwave CLICK HERE It is the same price as the one from JavoEDGE, i just like that the keypads are exposed and cheaper shipping charge here to the Philippines. Nice item from Boxwave. :D
Guest chaznet Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 If you don't mind the hump protruding from the top, this Krusell case designed for the SP5m works very well, as the top is open. The screen is exposed, which is great -- but you should get a clear decal to protect it. Well constructed, very much looks like it was made for the US SDA. http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/s...productid=21185
Guest chaznet Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 (edited) I ordered one of these and it's quite nice. Perfect fit, everything lines up. Covers the 'hump' well. The lights up top luminate through the holes and slightly reflect the area around the holes -- looks cool :D Phone easily slips in and out, but once in, stays put. Definitely for a pocket or a purse, no clip of any sort. It does have a belt loop provision in the back, but, they should've just left that out as you have to remove your belt to loop it through -- a bit impractical, an example of why you shouldn't smoke weed and design a phone case :D I like it better than the JavoEdge, as that one doesn't fit as well and covers the keyboard. Had a problem constantly inadvertently pressing the number keys with the JavoEdge during a call, not a problem with Boxware. Both are prone to accidental pressing of the multimedia buttons -- which I wish I could just deactivate... (actually, I accidentally press the multimedia keys >without:( Hey guys check this out.. i like this more for my SDA..looks like the keypads are exposed and i think better than the one from JAVOEDGE..
