T Mobile vs Push email

So, having just moved my company over to T Mobile for the unlimited pro bundle am I correct in my understanding that the branded Vario's (and a couple of Pro's) do not have the rom update to allow for push email and that my only choice is to set up activesync to sync every xx mins as an alternative?

Otherwise, can I reflash in the same way as my old Orange M500 to a newer/different rom to get push?

Yes, you can update your firmware to include the latest AKU2 updates, which includes Push Mail ;)
