Guest captgilbert Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Hi, I thought it was a great article you wrote pertaining to the T-Mobile MDA (in the U.S.) I am having a problem connecting to my Cable Modem (wirless network). My MDA (VARIO) sees and tries to connect and after about 10 seconds try's the next connection that it sees. I have been on with customer support with T-Mobile about 10 times and they have yet been able to resolve the problem. However my 2 computers (wireless) and PDA I-Paq all have no problem connecting. The computers are running windows XP prof and my I-paq pda is running Windows 2003 2nd edition. I have gone as far as unsecuring the wirless network and leaving it open as well as turning off the firewall so it would make the connection. Again, it see's it and will state its available. Once taping on it to connect, it will try and move down to the next connection the MDA see's. With this being said, I have been able to connect to a local hotspot from T-mobile without any problems. Again, my home network works fine with my 2 wireless computers and PDA without any problems. The phone is new, only 14 days and I am expecting a changeout from T-Mobile today or tomorrow. I just want to be sure there is nothing I am missing. I am running a Belkin Wireless Pre N Router that supports all the way up to MMO. Any information that you can provide would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for your time. Ron Gilbert
Guest CaptainZok Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Have you got mac filtering enabled on the router, or is it in "g" only mode? I ain't an expert on this router but I think either of those scenarios would cause the MDA not to connect.

Guest captgilbert Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 It does have the capability of a G and I believe MAC filtering is enabled Thank you, Ron
Guest CaptainZok Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 ok so if mac filtering is enabled have you added the mac address of your vario into the routers allowed list?
Guest captgilbert Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 No I have not. I am not quit sure how to get it in there. I would have that it would have been detected and setup as with my 2 computers and Ipaq PDA. They connected fine by themselfs. Thanks ok so if mac filtering is enabled have you added the mac address of your vario into the routers allowed list?
Guest CaptainZok Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Mac filtering is a way the router can be made to accept connections from approved devices only. On my router i need to add the device mac address to the list within the routers control panel so i wouldn't have thought it yours would have automatically add the vario. It would be like locking the door and leaving a box of keys on the step.
Guest CaptainZok Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Just looking round the web it seems tmob have disabled "G" on their varios so if your router is in "G" only mode that could be your problem. If this is the case you have 2 options, 1 switch the router to "B"& "G" operation 2 hack the vario's registry to switch it to "g" mode. Can't help with the router but this page gives details for the reg hack Vario reg hack
