Guest Wudang Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Purchased mobilewithstyle.com replacement home screen last Nov and following OS update needed to re-install. The developer has continued to improve the product and has now incorporated a retro led clock face which is the mutt's nuts ;) After using an uncluttered home screen for 6 months the weird thing is the default WM5 looks really dated - but thats progress I guess ;) p.s I've no connection to Mobile With Style just a delighted customer singing their praises :P

You actually paid for this? It's ugly. It looks "dated." Boo AND hiss.
Guest kam_ Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 You bought this home screen? You actually paid for this? It's ugly. It looks "dated." Boo AND hiss. Well i guess its got a 'retro' look.. But yeah not my taste at all.
Guest Wudang Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 You bought this home screen? You actually paid for this? It's ugly. It looks "dated." Boo AND hiss. Well, beauty is in the eye etc... but as an owner of the original Sinclair led watch in my eyes it's a design classic. The WM5 home screen is far too cluttered for it's size so this cleans it up without losing current alerts. For the more traditional look you can always go for this amongst others.
Guest w411y Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Yes but for free you can go for a couple of much more smooth designs from Silverman... http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...3&hl=clock+pack Here's a screenshot... There's more than one background image and colour scheme included in the downlaod I believe ;)

Also the version I paid for incorporates a mac type dock bar that is fully customisable - and not a single problem in over 6 months of daily use. While there might be better free clock faces around (though nothing beats my Sinclair led!) for around Edited May 14, 2006 by Wudang
Guest chrisc28 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 It's really weird that you try so hard to justify your purchase.

Guest bluerats Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 I just got it on your reccomendation. I like it a lot so far. Thanks for the tip.
Guest swivel Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 I just got it on your reccomendation. I like it a lot so far. Thanks for the tip. It's not a tip, it's a rip! There are so many free ones out there. And you can even make your own! Why pay? So many suckers out there!
Guest chaznet Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 (edited) I purhcased it a while back, but didn't keep it installed. There may be some corporate types who'd like to use this -- the functionality of it is nice, but you have to deal with the 'butt-ugly' screens. They all look like backgrounds in a graphics program that you could use, but never really do -- part of a tiled-background on a web page ;) Limited user-configurabilty -- you can't move stuff around, it's the authors way, or no way -- a lot of wasted screen real estate -- it would even make a bad screen saver... One thing I really liked about it was that 3D-Button lanucher bar, unfortunately it can't be used independently (or moved anywhere else on the screen). I'd have paid what I did for the screen just for the bar, and the the ability to use it in my own screen. If you're going to pay, there's many that surpass this -- the best include use of Fizz Weather, Papyrus, & Facade... Edited May 17, 2006 by chaznet

I'm sorry, but why does everybody here feel the need to complain about someone purchasing an application which they are nothing but happy about? This thread was meant to be in praise of what someone thought was worthy of sharing with other forum users, but it has now become more like a debate on the question of whether you should pay for something when you can get a free one - and you all seem to advocate that approach as if it was the right one. If you take that approach you can probably get any app you want on P2P, but that just makes you a scum-sucking bottom feeder! ;) Personally, I regularly buy software. Some I like, some I don't. I also contribute to shareware apps & free stuff that asks for a donation - because if everybody was like you lot there wouldn't be many developers left. If you ask me,

Guest sporkguy Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Let's not turn this into a flame-fest please people, otherwise I'll be forced to close the topic. Thanks.
Guest PPCPassion Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 (edited) I have bought 2 of MWS homescreens in the past and enjoyed using both of them. Don't judge it based on the screen shot. It gives you perfectly working and customizable scrolling appts(I am fully aware of the free one but this one works much better), all day appts, task launcher that you can customize in many different ways and much more. I have been editing xml files for quite a while and am very much familiar and comfortable with editing xml files, however, to the best of my knowledge, this was the first HS that (atleast) I came across where each function/plug in could be customized w/o even opening the xml file. So for a newbie or someone who does not want to mess with xml or for the sake of simplicity wants to purchase this homescreen, I don't see why not? Being said that, I would have to admit that individual HS (not the package deal) is little bit on the expensive side. Since I found Juni & DrBlow's homescreens(Both are master of HS artistry IMHO) esp. with Facade plug in, I have never looked back..Just my 2 cents.. Edited May 18, 2006 by PPCPassion
Guest Wudang Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Which leads me to think this fella has some connections with the company. I may be wrong. You are. ;) My connection with the company extended to buying the software six months ago. The product was just updated for WM5 when bought so I reported a few minor issues which were quickly put right. I had to reinstall last week after the i-mate OS update and on a mad whim thought it worth posting a comment in praise as other paid for software (Stowaway BT keyboard, Clearvue suite, GPRS Traffic monitor) has been more hit and miss. btw I'm not related to PPCPassion either :P

Guest chaznet Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 (edited) I took a look after your mentioned a WM5 update, way back when I tried it, it worked with WM5, but the screens weren't designed for it. They look much nicer now. You are. ;) My connection with the company extended to buying the software six months ago.
