Guest Oxcarz Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 We recently finished porting an existing pocketPC GPS tracking application to the WM2005 smartphone It would be a great help to have some folks test this application on our test server. Basically, the phone, paired with a bluetooth GSP receiver, sends your current position to our server periodically (every 10 to 300 seconds). Anyone who knows your account info on the server can see your current breadcrumb tracks, or tracks from previous days, on a web page. The web page uses Google Earth, Google Maps, US census maps, or Virtual Earth maps. Here is a link to some info on this application: http://www.geocities.com/prestonsystems/mytracking There are some other features in this smartphone version: you can send audio messages and photo images to the server, enter a destination place or address and the phone will display a route map to the destination after every position report. What you need: 1. So far the program has only been tested with the T-mobile SDA. It may also work with other wm2005 smartphone devices. The SDA is the HTC Typhoon and may be known by other names. Although we do have software for other devices, like PocketPC, this particular program is only for smartphones (no touch-screen) running Windows Mobile 2005. 2. Compact Framework 2.0. It can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en 3. A bluetooth GPS receiver. 4. Be willing to give us some feedback as we iron out any bugs. I had to application-unlock my t-mobile branded SDA to get it to work. Here are a couple of links that helped: http://wiki.spv-developers.com/index.php/H...on_Unlock_Guide http://spaces.msn.com/xpworld/Blog/cns!...A!198.entry It's free, of course (personal use only please). ANd you are welcome to use the server as long as you like. Email me at jpreston12 at yahoo.com and I will set up an account on the server and send the .cab file. Thanks!
Guest pd.ryder Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 This sounds like an extremely interesting application. Unfortunately, I do not posess a GPS unit to assist in the trials but I will watch this thread closely. The very best of luck ;)
Guest futaris Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 Sounds interesting. I have a Bluetooth GPS and a Qtek 8080 / SPV e200. However, I'm in Australia. What does the software use for generating routes???
Guest nastassja Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 i have a qtek 8310 and a gps fortuna slim (sirf3), and live in barcelona (spain)
Guest Oxcarz Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 The route maps only work for USA/Eur (sorry Australia). However, the map server uses Virtual Earth and Googel Earth which both have pretty good coverage for Australia...and it seems to be getting better all the time. Coverage for spain is good and route maps work fine. Just email me and we can give it a try. [email protected]
Guest conan_troutman Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 so say i blob work and my boss know my account details he check I am at hom and not at the footy and the wife can check to see if I am at work not at the Pub not sure I want big brother My boss or my wife knowing where I am every second of the day.
Guest jinner Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 Sounds interesting - similar to free 3Dtracking. That's a Java app for the smartphone but I couldn't get it to recognise my GPS. Can you save the route info on your phone and download when you sync to save GPRS costs?
