Guest Laser_iCE Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Hey guys, for a while now, I've been wanting to use a different email address in my Messages to the one that I have using Pocket MSN... The only reason that I use Pocket MSN is for MSN Messenger, because I don't want to sign my home MSN out... So I have a seperate account set up for my phone/laptop, but I still want to check the emails of my home account... So, is it possible to set up a HoTMaiL account for messages, and still use my phone specific one for MSN? Please say its so! Thanks! Laser_iCE
Guest Confucious Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 You would have to log out of messenger, switch accounts to check your email and then switch back to use messenger again Just out of interest, why don't you want to log out of messenger when you're not at home?
Guest fraser Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Simple answer is don't use hotmail, then you don't have to jump thru hoops just to get it working on your phone. Get an email account with someone with pop access, e.g. gmail, then you can access it in pocket outlook with no hastle. If you really want to do it right, get an IMAP mailbox from somewhere, or use one of the MS Exchange based services talked about on other threads here. Then your mail is always on the server and you can access it from anywhere.
Guest Confucious Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I have my own exchange server but I still have a hotmail account - some people I chat to on messenger only have my hotmail address. They can come in useful.
Guest Laser_iCE Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 It's not a matter of what other alternatives there are -- I want to use my HoTMaiL account. The reason I don't log out at home is because due to being in contact with people all around the world, the timezones creates hassles, so I stay logged in to receive messages from them. The first option that you gave me requires too much effort -- I should be able to use a different HoTMaiL account to the one I'm using in MSN Messenger... Oh well.

Oh well. To much effort? "should" be able? If I was you I'd sue M$ for not providing what you want ;)
Guest Laser_iCE Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 I thought it would have been simple enough to add in a new HoTMaiL account and I hoped it would set it all up with the connections and stuff, ala Microsoft Outlook... But nein! Nothing!
Guest fraser Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 It's not a matter of what other alternatives there are -- I want to use my HoTMaiL account. Well, it's maybe the wrong tool for the job. Surely accessing Hotmail is a real pain on the phone? The reason I don't log out at home is because due to being in contact with people all around the world, the timezones creates hassles, so I stay logged in to receive messages from them.Upgrade to the latest MSN beta (see discussion in OffTopic forum to get an invite) and it'll queue the messages for you, like email. I think...not actually tried that feature myself. The first option that you gave me requires too much effort -- I should be able to use a different HoTMaiL account to the one I'm using in MSN Messenger... Oh well. What, on their free service? ;) You can pay extra to access features like these, such as POP access.
Guest Laser_iCE Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 fraser... Regarding your last comment... If it's such a "hassle", then why does it do it for me when I sign into MSN on it anyway? Oh, and I've been a beta tester since it was private, and don't really enjoy it personally... I simply prefer to stay logged in -- I don't get how it's too much to ask, to simply be able to sync up my inbox exactly like it does when I sign into MSN Messenger...
