Vario screen not auto rotating

Well it's done it about two or three times now and I have only had it a week and a half. When I slide the keyboard out the screen stays in portrait mode. a soft reset fixes it. It's more of an annoyance really but has anyone else had this and is it something I should worry about?

Eek -- if you've only had your phone for a short amount of time... I recommend making sure you have the latest ROM, and if that still doesn't fix it, then sending it back ;) Sounds like a pretty severe fault!

Pretty sure I've got the latest rom (1.6.2.4). Just re-read my post and wanted to clarify its not every time, just a couple. I'm probably going to change over to the imate rom soon so i'll see if that fixes it. reluctant to send it back as it was bought online and who knows how long I'll be without a phone...

Theres aparently a magnet in the device somewhere which slides out with the keyboard. When this magnet is out of place the orientation of the screen is switched to landscape. Do you have anything magnetic near the device when you open it? A few people mentioned that the the magnet on the leather case that comes with the vario can trigger landscape mode without sliding the keyboard out!!

I wouldn't think it would be a ROM issues either, more a hardware issue, so it may be best to send the device back.

Yeah I'd heard about the magnet from one of fluffcat's posts. not sure if I was near one or not at the time but I am using the case when at work so that could be it. Guess I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens, Hasn't done it for these last two days and of course being so new I'm trying all sorts of software out on it so I suppose a software conflict couldn't be ruled out..? It is a little concerning that no-one else has had this problem though. so I guess I'd better be prepared to send it away ;)

Personally, I think its a software based thing... The main reason that I say this is because I'm almost 100% certain that they changed when the screen changes across to higher up the keyboard... I remember when I would take my phone out of my pocket/pouch and it would slide the keyboard out a tiny bit, and then this would trigger it to change to landscape... Not to mention the fact that it lagged something chronic, but now I've noticed that I can slide it out a fair amount and it doesn't trigger the landscape orientation...

Might just be me though.

I can open mine to show 4 rows of keys without it rotating the screen. Only when it exposes the soft key buttons on the keyboard does it rotate. This is how it has always worked for me.

However, when I have it in the supplied holster (with magnetic catch) and have it turned on (ie. not in standby/display off) then when I take it out, sometimes the magnets in the cover trigger it to rotate to landscape and then back again (when it moved away from the magnet).

If you're using the supplied holster, then I think that might explain the random rotations you were seeing, and not the keyboard being out slightly. In fact, many people on here talk about sliding the keyboard out slightly to get to the OK key for one handed operation and this doesn't rotate the screen.

I must say this makes the most sense to me. I have seen exactly the same behaviour on mine when using the case

I've had the same thing with the T-Mob case. Wondered what was causing it!
