Guest MisterMcG Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Hi Guys. :P Anyone got any ideas. Just got an 02 XDA Exec and was installing TT5 but was wanting to use my old Navman GPS4410. When trying to set up the 4410 bluetooth recognised it and I clicked through the passkey request then it said that the navman wanted to connect - accept yes or no - when I say yes it then asks for the passkey but doesnt give me the option to skip it as the back and next keys are greyed out. So i put in the passkey of "Navman" and eventually cant get the 4410 to communicate with the XDA. Tried it the other way of putting "Navman" in first time round when asked but then it doesnt come up again to give me the option to put it in again - if any of this makes sense? So for some reason my 4410 cannot communicate but it is still ok when i set it up on my ipaq2210. It also only lets me select com ports of 0, 4 or 8 (none of which are on the selection list for TT5 - but have found a way round that part of it!) Therefore I think there is something wrong with the Bluetooth function within WM5 or on the XDA. Really driving me nuts ;) . Cheers all

My terrible experience with this device indicates that almost nothing is compatible with WM5 unless written in the last few months. In fact nothing seems to work with ny exec. I hope that I'm wrrong. Guest squilla Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 (edited) Hi, It sounds to me like its your COM ports, have you looked at those. I had trouble with my SPV M5000 and a holux receiver, Below is what I did to make it work, I did a bit of googling and found it, so thanks to a guy called Dave for this info... "This is what I did today on my XDA Mini S. It's collected from this and other forums. First I had to install the GPS icon on the PDA in settings/connections using a freeware registry editor. STEP 1: ACTIVATE THE GPS CONTROL PANEL 1. Start up a registry editor 2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings 3. Delet the Dword in there and the value and replace them with: A new DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec) 4. And create a new string called "(default)" with no value (I think there was originally a string called redirect, rename this "(default)" if it's there 5. The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings. (check it does) note: you may have to soft reset after each stage if it appears not to work straight away but i managed to make these changes then saved them soft reset and then went to control panel in settings and a GPS option was there. You'll need this for the next stage. Wait about 1 minute before doing the soft reset. STEP 2: Set up the GPS & Tomtom 1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access. 2. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 6 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None. 4. Start TT5 and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 6 free. Select COM 6 and close TT5. 5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM (none) 6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 6. 7. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected. If you follow the above exactly it should hopefully work." Hope that helps. Edited May 17, 2006 by squilla

Guest asymtrax Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 I am in the same boat. I tried all the steps listed above but i cant seem to get the gps to comunicate with the device. I got the comport to apear in smartst but it just keeps waiting for gps. I think it has to do with actually pairing the gps with wm5. Can you tell me exactly how you got yours to work? Thanks in advance for you asistance.

Thanks in advance for you asistance.Hi asymtrax. I gave up on my Exec PDA. Two days after getting it all going, my speakers packed in. Was sent a replacement from O2 and decided to run the upgrade of software on new pda before putting on my own software. Followed instructions to the letter but the bloody thing dropped th link with activesync and stuffed up the pda. Sent it back and now just going for an N70 and sticking with my Ipaq. Anyways thats another stry:- what you need to do for the final step is when you open the GPS icon on your pda after having already set it to the 6 and set up tom tom is to go back in and change the GPS setting to (none). Shut it down again then open up and Tom Tom should auto find the GPS. Make sure you are somewhere where the GPS can pick up a signal (ideally outside or have it sitting next to a window with a clear view to the sky). Sorry if this all sounds a bit vague but just off to bed now and out early in morn. Get back to me and let me know if you got it working or not. If not I'll try and do up a full procedure that'll hopefully help you. rgds Edited May 30, 2006 by MisterMcG
