Guest 2112 Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Can anyone tell me the main difference bewteen the microsoft word software found on windows mobile 5 OS and the windows word processor found on symbian OS like the Sony P990i and Nokia N80?
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 From what I remember, and it has been ages since I last looked at Symbian apps, the UIQ software is a view-only thing so the big difference is that you can create and edit Word and Excel files on Windows Mobile. That only applies to apocketPCs though - AFAIK you still can do anything more than view them on Windows Mobile for Smartphone

Guest 2112 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 (edited) is windows 5.0 on symbian because i have heard that the P990is symbian word apllication allows you to edit and create documents aswell. Also do you think it is worth getting a windows OS phone rather than a symbian version if my main concern is the word processing capabilities. Edited May 17, 2006 by 2112
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 No, Windows and Symbian are competing operating systems for phones/PDAs, so they are not the same thing. The SE P990i runs a version of Symbian UIQ. You can get more details at My-Symbian (and other Symbian forums) http://my-symbian.com/main/index4.php?cat=4 The N80 runs Symbian Series 60, which is a different OS again (so different applications). Again you can find out more on those on Symbian forums. I can't find any details of the Word editor, but it does refer to it briefly on the SE website. If you're going to be writing documents on the device I would recommend the HTC Wizard (often branded as T-Mobile MDA Vario, QTEK 9100, or O2 XDA Mini S) as it has a large keyboard. I've never used one of the P9x series that has a qwerty keyboard so I can't help much with them, but from what I've seen the keys are very small.
