Porting number advice

Guys,

Is there any way of porting your number out of a contract without actually ending said contract?

IE - I want to start a new contract, and take my current number with it, KEEPING the old contract going, but with a newly allocated number?

I know it's a long shot, but it would be nice ;)

AFAIK This isn't possible.

When they generate the PAC for you, that in effect cancels the contract it was attached to.

I'm not sure its even possible to Port-out a number and replace it with a new one.

That's the way it normally works, you could ask your current provider if they can do it for you though, it would be in their interests to keep you as a customer if nothing else.

thanks for the replies. looks like i'm going to have to change my number. Doing things that are out of the ordinary is a bit hard to get across to 3's call center. Even though generally, they're pretty good.
