Guest Confucious Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Got my 4Gb SD card and put it in my card reader attached to my PC - went to format it and it said it was only 1Gb (about 980Mb). My initial thought was that I'd been sent a 1Gb card even though it said 4Gb. I put it in my Universal and lo and behold - it shows 3813.53Mb ;) Now I need to find a (cheap) card reader than can recognise large cards. Under memory my card is showing 3022.96Mb free which is about right (it will soon fill up - wikipedia was a 769Mb download!) but when I go into messaging-> tools ->options -> storage is show -1098788Kb free! Don't you love it :P
Guest Confucious Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Update: Transfering large files over AS doesn't work. WM5Storage came to the rescue - until I can find a card reader that can read large cards it at least allows me to transfer large files... BUT I removed my card yesterday to show someone and now it doesn't work! I wasn't writing anything to the card when I removed it so I'm not sure what's gone wrong but all my programs are on it so my phone won't start properly. I use pocket informant which is on my card so I can't access my contacts now - oh goody! The card can be read and written to by my friends Exec but when I put it in mine it just hangs. I now need to find a card reader to copy everything off the card so I can reformat it but this seems easier said than done. Does anyone know of a card reader capable of reading large SD cards?
Guest Confucious Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 I managed to back my card up using WM5 storage, reformatedt the card , copied everything back and it still didn't work. A hard reset later and all is fine ;)
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 So it were the Universal wot dunnit ! Is there something on the card that might have caused this ? I'm thinking along the lines of Today screen plugin or something that couldn't be accessed immediately by the device due to location. Any clues ?
Guest Confucious Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Probably! I've got all sorts of things on the card and am piling more on all the time so impossible to narrow it down unless it happens again. I now have room for the full Lexipedia - at 712Mb you need a large card, but I'd put lots on and hadn't done a reset for a while so I guess I'll just have to be more careful in future.
Guest Confucious Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 In case anyone is interested the USB card reader from MobyMemory (cost
