reinstalling windows ce 4.2 on SPVC550

ok, i may have been a fool in what i did but here goes anyway.

the profile on my spvc550 locked onto headset (obviously i couldn't hear anyone on calls), i think was because i sat on the headphones connector in the phone while they were in, and this broke it somewhat and the connector in the headset bit kept touching, making the phone think there were headphones in it.

this has been going since a month after having it, you had to twiddle with the headphone port in order to get it back to outdoor mode(or w/e other profile).

few days ago it just locked, nothing worked.

i decided that the logical (and quite brutish lol) thing to do was the just remove the headphone port.

so i did so and now there is no trace of the headphone part.

after doing that it reverted back to outside profile, for all of about an hour then returned to headset.

i think the software is on the fritz... (the majority of everythin microsoft related i have ever had does something like this... especially the OS's i have had since having the internet)

now when do the hard reset by holding the two softkeys in and pressing on button once, it doesn't come up with a screen asking to press 0.

it come up with 3 coloured box's. red, green, blue (in that order going from top to bottom) with the red having:

Hurricane

IPL 1.00.18

the green having:

Hurricane

SPL 1.00.18

and the blue just having:

Hurricane

i have no idea what to do now, i will accept that fact that taking out the headset port may have caused the phones ultimate demise...

any helpful comments at all will be greatly appreciated, cus its either fix this or fork out money for a new phone ;)

firstly... its not Microsoft's fault for something you have done to cause this...dont blame others for your actions....

Secondly, if its still under warrenty/guarentee - take it to the orange shop for replacement. - pretty logical

I think he blames microsoft for the buggy software when in fact it's HTC who made the phone - the headphone jack thing is quite common and I doubt it is software, but I think even the dumbest of shop assistants will notice the big hole where the headphone jack used to be and the warranty sticker being voided.

Most (all?) c550's will still be under warranty, IIRC it's not been out a full year yet?

Welcome to the forum Chohoa.

The C550 has Windows Mobile 2003se not CE 4.2 and it is part of the ROM.

The 3 coloured screen is the bootloader screen - is there a ROM available for the C550 you can flash with?

To cure the headphone problem a matchstick in the socket usually works.

i'm not trying to directly blame microsoft, its just that i haven't had much luck in any of the OS's i have bought lasting for very long without having to format and reinstall. i just find alot of microsoft applications and such an annoyance when compared to linux... and even mac (although i haven't really had much experience on mac)

and yer, fluffcat is right about the huge hole in it, although the warranty void seal hasn't been broken, i kinda took the flap at the bottom out, tin snipped the hole for the flap and the headset hole, opened it up and removed it, its actually quite clean but still, no shop assistant will even be able to keep a straight face if i ask for a replacement.

I'm not sure about the roms, i'm not greatly familiar with smartphones as this is the first one i have had, i guess i need someone to hold my hand through the proscess's of fixing what goes wrong, if there are any suggestions as to where i can obtain the roms i'd be really greatful.

HTC phones have a habit of sticking in headset mode and, like I say, a matchstick wriggled round in the socket usually cures it.

this is just a little quirk that i have found. when you look at the 'about' section in settings, it says windows mobile 2003se... although if you look into system info on file manager it says os:windows ce and version:4.21 (this being where i got the os version i stated it was earlier).

which one is it it? lol
