If I remove the battery on my SP5 for a few seconds and re-insert it, the clock on the phone resets itself. It never used to. What could be causing this to happen?

Could be the tiny cell battery thats fitted to the circuitboard inside.

Best bet is to contact i-mate for a solution, possibly a warranty repair/replacement.

aye but the data is stored on the storage device which if i'm correct it always there regardless of the internal battery status.

Not all my data is stored on a storage card. Everything else is fine - settings etc. Just the clock goes back to some time in 2003.

Have to agree with spokguy and would say the internal battery, it's a known fault on older phones especially the C500 (which mine does exactly the same thing)

my c500 is the same as well, is it possible to replace the internal battery?? its annoying especially as you have to take the battery out to remove the Mini SD card

Imate just email me this:

Hello,

Thank you for your E-mail. I would like to inform you that there might

be some system files are missing and you have to re-load the Operating

system all over again to your device which will re-install all the

system files again. To save your calendar and contact entries, you can

do it in following ways. You can either do it by synchronizing your

device with the desktop/laptop via the USB cable and selecting standard

partnership when asked for or, by saving to your main memory or to your

storage card.

To save the Pictures, Ringtones, Video and your personal file, once you

are connected to the Microsoft ActiveSync, click at Explore and copy the

file to your desktop computer. To restore them, paste them to your

device's folder. Or, copy them to your Storage Card.

To upgrade your device, you first need to register with the

www.clubimate.com website, and then navigate to the Club Support >

Updates/Downloads > Device Support (SP5) > Operating System for SP5 and

download the ROM upgrade onto your desktop/laptop. After having done so,

please connect your device to the desktop/laptop via the USB cable and

connect them through the Active sync program. After a partnership is

selected, please run the upgrade from your desktop and it will be

applied onto the device, which shall take approximately 30 minutes to

complete.

If you have any other questions/queries do not hesitate to contact us,

we'll be glad to assist you.

Right. So they're basically telling you to upgrade your ROM?

Worth a try I suppose.. if the problem persists.. nag them some more ;)

The thing that gets me is if it was a battery thing, they why aren't the rest of the 'settings' reset? Why just the clock?

Guest sporkguy

Because settings are stored in hard files, whereas no file on earth could remember the time!

Same reason computers need batteries, and watches etc.. the cell battery is responsible for storing the time when the device is off. That is its only purpose.

Hence why when you hard reset your device, the time remains.

Just hard reset my device and the clock still resets itself after battery out.

My conclusion remains the same then, its the cell battery.

Well my phone has been back to imate 3 times to have the problem fixed. They have changed the main board etc etc.

Finally the clock does not reset anymore when I remove the battery!
