Guest ZeroK66 Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Hello all, Well after a few weeks of no joy with my M5000 & b!tched at orange and got an FOC upgrade to the C600 which I have had a while. This weekend it dawned on me that I have a perfectly good phone gathering dust & I should try & get it working well. Questions are: What is the best Rom to install on the Universal? How do I go about installing a non-Orange ROM? Is this advisable or should I just flog the phone? Thanks, Leon
Guest Confucious Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 ROM upgading to other makes of ROM is not easy but is possible - if you want to do this head over to xda-developers where te merits and demerits of each ROM together with details of how to do it are discussed in detail. And yes, it is worth it ;)

Guest Shaunfarris Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 What is it that you think you are going to get different by using someone elses ROM???
Guest Shuflie Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 What is it that you think you are going to get different by using someone elses ROM??? Features and programs not available with with your own operator's ROM? A more advanced radio stack that's able to lock onto a weaker signal? Less intrusive Operator branding? Take your pick.
Guest youngerpants Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Hi Modaco, not posted for a Loooong time (about 3.5 years, when I had the original spv; Hi Paul, Mono et al. Bloody hell things have changed around here) Anywhoo, I've just got me a Universal (SPV M5000) and been playing around for a while, got rid of all the orange rubbish, got it all the relevant tweaks/ software/ bootscreen... set up how I want it. Now this post has me thinking about ROMs. What's available out there? Pro's and Con's of each. What are you running and why? Younger
Guest Confucious Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 Welcome back. Much as I dislike recomending another forum xda-developers has one which is very technical and discusses the pros and cons of each ROM and tells you how to load a new ROM (it's not that straightforward) - sugest you look there for ROM details. Hope you enjoy your M5000 I have an Exec (now on T-Mob was on O and 3) but have stuck with O2's ROM because it's not bas and easier than changing. :)
Guest youngerpants Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 Cheers Confucious, I'll check that out.
