Guest marksurry Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Picked up my new M600 on Saturday and must say it's a superb handset apart from one problem. I upgraded from the M500 using an SDIO wifi card which connected every time to my wifi router. The M600 can see the network but can't make the connection. Router is a Belkin modem/router using WPA encryption and mixed 11b and 11g wifi. I have 3 devices running on my wireless network, desk top pc, laptop and M500 smart phone. Why can't the M600 connect? Need help please.....some one ;)
Guest fraser Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Try temporarily turning off the encryption in your router. Nine times out of ten WiFi problems are down to encryption quirks. That sounds likely if you can see the network and not connect. If you get it to work at least you know where the problem lies. Also when you are changing settings, hit ok to go right back to the today screen. Turning WiFi off and on again (as well as rebooting), can sometimes help.
Guest marksurry Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Thanks for the reply Fraser. I have a suspician the problem may be with the router. If I hit the reset button on the router the M600 connects first time with no problems at all. If I disconnect the M600 from the wifi netowrk and try to re-connect, it won't let me, same problem as previously mentioned. Can't work out why the other devices in my apartment can connect every time though. Orange have offered a replacement handset but I'm not sure what to do. Guess I could take the handset and if the problem continues it's a router problem.
Guest jimbouk Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Do you have SSID broadcast off? Most WM5 devices are not that clever at reconnecting to wifi if SSID is off. Options are either to turn SSID on (which isnt such a big risk if you have WEP etc on) or to force it to reconnect (by clicking and holding on the network id in network card settings and selecting connect from the pop down menu). I have a belkin router and had problems with it. I now leave ssid on and it connects everytime.
Guest lescargot Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 I had problems with using WPA as well, managed to get it working but then it would prevent any other devices connecting by wifi. Changing to WEP solved it. Not sure if it is a prophet or router problem. I have read other people having difficulty with WM5 devices and WPA.
Guest HippyChris Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 I have the same problem, i think it's related to the belkin routers, Mine is an access point only so i think my problem is different but the only advice i have is to make sure turbo mode is off, apparently WM5 doesn't like belkins turbo mode.
Guest viggo Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 today I received a M600. I had problems connecting it to a Belkin Pre-N wlan router. I found out that the 802.11e QoS setting in the Channel and SSID page was the problem. when it's On, the M600 does not connect. when you change it to Off, the Wifi works perfect. my settings: Channel: auto Wireless mode: g & b Broadcast SSID: On Protected Mode: Off ACK Mode: Immidiate ACK 802.11e QoS: Off Security: WPA-PSK (TKIP)
