Guest Pagemakers Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Is it possible to connect my wm5 smartphone or ppc to my home network and browse the folders of my networked pcs?
Guest w411y Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Try Orb. I think your PC must be on and your phone connected to fast internet such as WiFi. You can apparently use it to stream your Digital TV from your PC too. Havnt tried it myself but I definately will soon.
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Have you got a link? Google doesn't do too well searching for 'orb'
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 This was the second hit when I did a google http://www.orb.com/ Is this what you are after?
Guest sporkguy Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Orb is a good solution - also because it can stream video and music and resample it depending on your device and connection speed.. so codecs aren't an issue. The file viewer app isn't too shabby either. Alas its not as good as the Windows Explorer app that's present on PPC devices.. but Resco Explorer are working on something for WM5 SP ;)
Guest lapimate Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Is it possible to connect my wm5 smartphone or ppc to my home network and browse the folders of my networked pcs? How about? http://www.parystec.demon.co.uk/pt_vnc_SmartphoneWM5.htm I use PTvncS on WM 2003 SE (i-mate SP3).
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 So there's nothing as simple as a windows explorer type app that will allow me to browse the drives of my other networked PCs? Just like I do on a regular PC?
Guest EvilDaz Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 (edited) Hi I have an SPV M600 running WM5. I have a linksys wireless acces point and I am running a DHCP server on my router. My router runs NAT for the 192.168.0.0/24 network. I search for my SSID and my m600 picks it up fine, the DHCP Server gives my M600 the IP of 192.168.0.10 (You MUST have a DHCP server on your network to give the M600 an IP address as I have found no way of giving the device a static IP without a 3rd part wireless card). I don't know if this is true of other devices. Once my handset is connected, it is like any other device on the network, I can RDC to my desktop, router, wireles AP, browse tinterweb etc. etc Also with using Resco File Explorer I can map any network drives / shares available on my network. Hope this helps. Edited May 25, 2006 by EvilDaz
