How to prevent WM5 PPC users installing apps?

I thought I'd read something about this, but I can't find it

Basically I want to temporarily disable installation of applications, so that when we hand phones out we know nobody can install anything new onto them.

It needs to be temporary so that when Support need to install something they can change a setting or "do something" to re-enable installation. When they're finished they will then disable installation again.

Ideally I don't want to have a Smartphone-like solution, where you have to go to a website to enable/disable, but if that's the only way then fair enough.

Can I just rename the EXE that performs the CAB installation?

Will that also prevent installations through ActiveSync?

Hmm, bit OTT for our requirements really. Plus I was hoping for a free solution.

I've made a basic HTML page telling people to bugger off, and replaced the command in the CAB file association so that it no longer runs wceload and now runs PIE and opens my basic page.

The only trouble is... you need something like Resco Explorer to install the reg key, which costs money.

Is there a freebie .REG key importer?
