Guest mini_man Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Sniper Ever wanted to send anonymous text messages? Ever been on a bus and seen a cute girl sitting in the corner and wished you had her number? Ever been in shop with annoying children playing ringtones and wish you could think of a subtle way to tell them stop it? Ever been in a classroom, office or a pub with your mates and wish you could scare, shock or make them laugh somehow? Well now you can! Sniper is an amazing application that is simple and very useful to use. Currently in its beta stages Sniper has a very initiative menu system that will make it easier for you to make the correct decision. Created by Ifor Evans it will run on any Windows Mobile Device! Including SmartphoneSniper_Viewing_Message.wmvsending_message.wmvinbox.wmv

Guest iforevans Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Hi, No the receiver doesn't HAVE to have Sniper on it. Hence you can send messages to other types of SmartPhones like Nokias. However, Sniper has a built in "Inbox" for txt messages received over BlueTooth so for receiving on MS mobiles it's much prettier ;-) ...Ifor
Guest leethacker Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Can't wait for the Beta-test to start... ;)
Guest shanedean Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 I've added my name too ;) Wasn't there something similar to this a while back......? A BT messaging/bothering thing?

Guest leethacker Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 (edited) Hey cool. I hope I can get the first beta today because tomorrow I have a family meeting where I meets lots of persons with lots of different phones. The perfect situation for testing Sniper in a real-world situation. ;) Edited May 24, 2006 by leethacker
Guest mini_man Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Ok the first beta cab has been sent out! please post if you do not recieve it. Thanks Sam and Ifor
Guest leethacker Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Haha, okay, lets start with the first bugreport: 1) There is no notification telling me that I am currently receiving a file. 2) File transfer will interrupt somewhere in the middle when I try to send huge files via bluetooth to the storage card. I assume that somehow the file is cached in the main memory and after that transferred to external storage in this beta. This is a pretty bad approach, because as it is now if I have only 512KB free on my phone I can only receive files with a maximum of 512KB, even if I have gigabytes of free room on my storage card. Okay, that are my first impressions. Oh, and i guess its written in .Net Compact Framework, right? (because of the long startup time), right?

Sniper will not start receiving a file without you having agreed to the transfer. Are you saying you didn't get a confirmation popup? What device was this on? The issue with large transfers I am aware of, and am working on a resolution :-) have yyou tried the txt messaging side of things yet? ...Ifor

I will do that tomorrow. And, no, I dont get a confirmation popup on my phone. It just receives the file without asking me and asks me if it should be received when the transfer is already done. ;-) I am on a i-Mate SP5 with latest AKU2 ROM here and I send the files from my PC (with MS Bluetooth stack).
Guest M1DUL Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 [1) On My Orange SPV M5000 PPC WM5 When I sent a Test message to it from my Orange SPV C500 WM2003Se I can not Delete the message it comes up saying Unexpected Exception occured in Delete Message Reason:-IO Exception 2) When I click onto the Hide bit I can not get the Sniper back up and running I have to restart both the Devices to get the program to come back on. Okay, that are my first impressions.
Guest mini_man Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 hey there thanks for picking up on that as well, we were seeing if it was just certain phones or many! We are aware of this problem and are near completion on a fix for this. A new version will be distributed shortly. Enjoy the testing. Sam
Guest leethacker Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 (edited) Okay, feature request: Just talked with my friends about the app and some of them told me that a in-built bluejacking solution would be great. That means: You select a picture or a textmessage, press "Bluejack" and then the phone sends this picture or message to all other bluetooth enabled devices in range, and that every 30 seconds (or more or less / should be user defineable). Haha, stuff for the kiddies ;) , but cool in some way I have to admit. I imagine walking through some crowd with this function running, and all phones around me start beeping and ringing. *lol* And a request directly from me: Please add all the functions in the first post. That is: Edited May 24, 2006 by leethacker

Guest leethacker Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 (edited) OK ... AutoAccept is going to be a setting, file type to different folders ... Ok ... but there can't be a folder for EVERY filetype ... there are thousands ;-) Auto swtich on before Send? I LIKE it! it will be incorporated ... Set up pairing? What for? What extra does that get you? Am I missing something? ...Ifor I always thought that autoaccept between two bluetooth devices only works if they are paired. Thats why I wrote about the pairing. When I am wrong there is really no need for pairing. About filetypes/folders: I want it that it is possible that I can set that (for example): all pictures (*.jpg, *gif, *.bmp, ...) automaticly go to folder xy all videos (*.avi, *.3gp, ...) automaticly go to folder ab all sounds automaticly go to folder cd rest goes to folder ef I hope you now understand what I mean. Just have a look at what non-smartphones do with different file types. Then you know what I mean. ;) Edited May 24, 2006 by leethacker
Guest chelttown Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 (edited) I have a bug to report, althought it isn't with the program. The virus scanner on my hotmail account tells me there is a virus in all the attachments you have sent me, which means I cannot test the program ;) . Please can try to fix the problem or do I need to give you another email address. Thank you for accepting me for the beta testing, Chris Edited May 24, 2006 by chelttown

Yes I have already suggested this but in the way that, some common file types will be put onto a list with custom destinations and then customizable file types and browseable destinations.
Guest iforevans Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Ok a few points. For some reason, Hotmail and hotmail alone seems to think there is a virus in the CAB. There isn't. I tried zipping it up but apparently that doesn't help. If anyone is having the same problem let me know and provide an alternative address I can send to. File types to specified folders with additional user specifiable folders for specified types. Yep, I like the idea. A radar showing devices and their approximate distances from the user .... hmmm let me investigate how much info I can get from the BlueTooth Radio and get back to u all. There will be a new Beta at the end of tommorow. ...Ifor
Guest Laser_iCE Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Hey Ifor, very cool idea for an application indeed :) In regards to the radar, you might want to check out WiFiFoFum, it might help you out and possibly give you some ideas... Also, this is kind of "out there", but is it possible to, once paired with a device, to act like... I dunno, but possibly have some sort of control over the other phone? Clearly different phones would have different capabilities, but I mean possibly having audio come out of the speaker or something... But yeah, I think the idea that someone mentioned about setting off all the phones around you would be hilarious... Even if what you are sending is corrupt or something so that nothing comes up on the screen, but just listening to a group of phones beeping and ringing would turn more than enough heads! Also, if you need/want another tester, my mate at work has a JAMin, so whenever I'm at work, I could test it with him :) Let me know if you're interested... Laser_iCE
