Is my SMT 5600 really dead?

first off, i want to thank you in advance for any future help.

i've been searching on this site for many days now and have not really found the answer to my problem.

i've had the SMT 5600 since about october of last year, and everything was perfect. that was until, i let the battery drain out completely. BIG MISTAKE. the only way to get it to charge after that was to buy a universal charger that actually came with a mains charger and a new battery i got from eBay.

both batteries, with the mains charger and the universal one, would take aleast 24hours to charge. and to make matters worse, the charger would not last all day like it use to, topping at no more than 2-3 hours (rapid discharge). i also tried cutting the cable from the mains charger to expose the wires. i charged the battery through this using the negative and positive charges. not much luck.

should i buy a new battery? is it an internal problem that i can fix at home? (i dont have a warranty and i am under t-mobile)

please help, i miss my phone and i don't know how much longer i can take the loaner i have now.

thank you.

I'm a bit concerned about what you have been trying to do with the batter and charger? What sort of universal charger have you been using, or is it a USB type?

Also what are you trying to do with "negative and positive charges"?

As for allowing your battery to fully discharge, this is actually quite hard to do as thLi-ion battery has under voltage protection to help prevent full discharge.

By the sounds of it you do need a new battery, if you had managed to let the battery get too low you can damage the internal capacitance of the battery this will give you similar problems to what you are experiencing.
