Guest marcwic Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 I have a strong suspusion this seems to happen when the phone's pluged into a PC via USB (or has been a while ago) and the PC either has active sync off or disconencted, or not installed. Any thoughts?
Guest esh Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 Seems quite commonly reported with the non-aku2 roms which i assume you are running. Will be fixed when t-mobile release their aku2 rom, they have done so in germany so cant be too long before they release in the uk.
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 I haven't had any such problems on my Wizard, but had lots a while back on my Prophet. The Imate AKU2 ROM fixed it for my Prophet, and I have the Imate AKU2 ROM on my Wizard now too. I wouldn't wait for T-Mobile if you're having problems - the ROM update is quite quick and painless and the Imate ROM appears to be very stable.

I have insurance with tmobile (accidental damage) Would a non tmobile rom void this?
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 I have insurance with tmobile (accidental damage) Would a non tmobile rom void this? Yes as you would be flashing with software not approved by Tmobile.
Guest Swampie Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 I have insurance with tmobile (accidental damage) Would a non tmobile rom void this? It might. It shouldn't affect the accidental damage portion, as dropping it into water is in no way affected by the presence of a non-T-Mobile ROM. But if the device just stops working on it's own, and they discover that a non-T-Mobile ROM is present, they may try and get out of the claim. Of course, if it doesn't boot, then they may never find out, and even if they tried a repair rather than immediate replacement, they'd probably just reflash the device, removing any trace of the rouge ROM image.
Guest tsutton Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 My Vario randomly reboots itself for no reason at all. Started yesterday, didn't add any new software. And it just happened again 5 mins ago...
Guest NCC-1701 Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 My Vario randomly reboots itself for no reason at all. Started yesterday, didn't add any new software. And it just happened again 5 mins ago... I am aware that mine re boots itself at least twice a day, normally around Mid day & then again at around 5pm. I dread to imagine what it gets up to during the night! It hangs up regularly as well, & in the 6 months that I have had it I have never managed to get the alarm to work (I've given up trying). Like others I cant wait to see if the T mobile non-aku2 rom makes a difference. If not I will bin it & buy a PAYG
Guest chucky.egg Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 It's not WM5 it's the cruddy ROMs from the operators. My Prophet had all these problems (and more) and the only solution I found was to put the imate ROM on it. From that day I never had a problem. The first thing I did with my T-Mob Vario was to put the imate K-JAM ROM on it, and I've had none of these issues. You have to remove the ROM "branding" using a tooll called Lokiwiz, which you can get from XDAdevelopers.com. Once unbranded you simply run the ROM .exe to replace your ROM. Should be done in under an hour. ftp://ftp.clubimate.com K-JAM_WWE_2169101_020710_ship.exe

Knowing my luck I will do it the day before T-Mobile release their AKU2 ROM for UK! :)
Guest tsutton Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Has it been confirmed that it's the ROM version and not because when you do a hard reset, it cleared out any dodgy software you installed, so it works better?
Guest Jandy Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Mine does this too - amongst other things. PIE often freezes up, and then won't re-dial the modem, and also won't make or receive calls until a (soft) reset is carrid out. I've caught it resetting itself too, and I notice my default text-input method reverts to keyboard quite often - which I guess is because it has reset when I wasn't looking! Oh, and active sync often runs in the background for me too..... I'm not sure about all this ROM re-flashing business, does anyone think a hard reset may fix it?
Guest chucky.egg Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Has it been confirmed that it's the ROM version and not because when you do a hard reset, it cleared out any dodgy software you installed, so it works better? "No", not with my Vario, but "Yes" with the Prophet I spent about 3 weeks trying various different configurations of the ROM the device shipped with (I dont recall the ROM version, but it was pre-AKU2). Every configuration I tried had some sort of problem, the worst (for me) was the way the SD card just disappeared every so often requiring a reset. As soon as I put the AKU2 ROM on the Prophet it cured all the problems I had (which had included random soft resets) immediately. I didn't have the time or inclination to repeat those tests with the Vario, so I just went straight to the imate K-JAM ROM. I'm looking at deploying a number of these devices at work and plan to do the same for each of those too - I'm that confident it cures it, and that happy with the imate ROM.
Guest tsutton Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Interesting, thanks. I might do it on my 1 month and a few weeks old Vario... am afraid I could make it as a door stop. :) Can I revert back to Vario ROM if I didn't want it?
Guest turbo lemon Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 My T-Mobile Vario reboots a few times a day, but I can stop it doing it - by removing the miniSD card. I'm not sure if it is because I'm using a generic noname card or if it would do it with a branded card, but it is something I will try when I get a chance.
Guest tsutton Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 I have a branded memory card and it does reboot too. Someone said that the i-mate ROM fixed this problem and it no longer reboots with the memory card. Hmm!

I have used both a 1gb Sandisk & a 512mb Sandisk card in my Vario & it reset itself irrespective of which card I used. Got really fed up the other day & called T-mobile CS. They had me take my Vario into a repair centre. I'm waiting to see what it performs like when I get it back (hopefully with an updated ROM).
