Guest Paradox-Sj Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 You can use the spv-Services app to change a phone's cid. What is the CID and what will changeing it affect? What advantage does it give if any?
Guest kam_ Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 Its soo wierd sooo many people ask this question but i've never seen a decent answer to it.. well anyway.. The CID links a phone to a particular operator. Usually its used to verify you're uploading a rom from one operator onto a device from that same operator. For example a SP5 rom will be stamped with a I-Mate CID, and the installer will check that the phone you try to flash has the I-Mate CID. That means trying to flash the SP5 rom to a qtek 8310 won't work. Likewise trying to flash a qtek rom onto an SP5 won't work, because the SP5 won't have the qtek CID. Some people confuse it with the simlock, but its different. The Simlock forces you to use the providers simcard, the CID on the other hand forces you to use the operators software on the phone. As far as i know the SPV developers tool sets the CID to 11111111 which is known as a SUPER ID or developer ID. With this id any rom can be flashed onto the phone. This is the only real advantage of changing the CID for normal users. For developers it allows them to try custom roms etc, because the rom doesn't neet to be digitally signed with any operators signature. Anyway, the new tools is suposed to make a backup of the CID so you can restore it, but i'm not sure if the restore is working right now. As you can imagine it may be a waranty issue if you can't change the CID back to what it should be. Fortunatly there is another way to get other roms onto your device. You can use NBFtools (also from spv developers) to edit the CID contained in the rom file. You extract the rom installer on your PC, and find the nk.nbf file. Open it with nbftools and delete the operator id. This rom will then install onto any compatible device and not just one from that operator. Anyway hope that helps
