Guest Kals24-7 Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 Hi, I need some advice regarding my next smartphone/pocket PC. Currently I have a SPV C600 which has been a good starter phone for me (never having used a windows based phone before) but now I want some extra functionality to play with. Dont want to go for a fully fledged PDA because of the size, but I am currently considering the following: - Orange SPV M600 - T Mobile MDA Compact II / Pro ? - T mobile MDA Vario - O2 XDA Mini s Can anyone please give me some pointers? Thanks
Guest peekie Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 I used to prefer the smartphone mainly because of its size . on the pda side it depends what you want both the spv m600 and vario are simular in size only the vario is thicker because of the full qwerty keyboard.Orange did make their own version of the vario called the M3000 , but sadly the uk missed out on it , the m3000 will be upgraded to the newer version simular to the vario2 , when it will be out is probably september , but thats if the uk orange take it. the choice really is do you want a keyboard or not. the m600 is a nice phone and the black looks cool but the coice is yours best bet is to look at them both and see which one feels good in the hand and to use , i find the keyboard very usefull on the m3000 . you can always as i do keep the smartphone for going out in the evening so you have the best of both worlds :)
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 The M600 (based on an HTC Prophet) is a great device. I had a Dopod version and loved it - probably the first time I've "loved" (not in the Biblical sense) a phone since my Symbian P900. The MDA Vario and XDA Mini S are basically the same thing (based on an HTC Wizard design) and are what I use now. The extra size of thing is a consequence of the keyboard, and the one downside that I've found. The keyboard has had far more use than I ever expected it to though, to the point that I would now struggle to back to a keyboard-less device. I can't speak for the Compact II, but AFAIK it doesn't have WiFi - which is probably the biggest difference from the other (does it have Windows Mobile 5?, not sure). If you keep you Smartphone as a standby as Peekie suggests I'd go for a Vario or Mini S (depending on which network is stronger for you).

I thinks its between the MDA Vario and XDA Mini S, I reckon I'd use the keyboard quite alot. I'll visit the local T-mobile and O2 shops to see what they look and feel like. Are there any new devices planned to be released towards the end of the year Nov/Dec 06?, that I should consider waiting for? Cheers Cheers.
Guest Laser_iCE Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 Hermes!! Wait for it, otherwise you will kick yourself later! It is the Wizard's successor and looks absolutely dropdead sexy! http://www.modaco.com/HTC-Hermes-O2-beats-...33-t241295.html Seriously, if you can hold out that extra bit longer, it would be totally worth the wait :)
Guest Confucious Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 (edited) The Hermes does look good - but not sure how long you'ld have to wait. T-Mobile do unlimited datafor Edited May 31, 2006 by Confucious
Guest Kals24-7 Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 oops - 2 late! I ordered the O2 mini s, its arrived today, cant wait to get home and check it out. Felt abit gutted once I found out about the HTC Hermes. But I guess I can always upgrade after 12 months. Just one last quick question. Iv done a little reading on overclocking, Im fairly confident I know what im doing, but I dont want to wreck my shiny new mini s. Is it fairly safe to do if you follow the instructions? Cheers
