(Topic description / title edited to be more relevant)

I've got the Cingular 2125 / C600, and have been trying to get a first homescreen together; it's not gone well. At first I tried to edit other people's homescreens, and then tried to get Homescreen Designer to do it, but HD doesn't do 240x320 and doesn't support my phone. Basically what I want is the following, mocked up on the C500 in Homescreen Designer:

template.gif

(the text that says test is where the calendar should be)

I also want to have a grey, not a transparent icon bar like a default color scheme would be.

This is the background:

thiebaud3.gif

(it's a little longer than the max, fits in just right under the taskbar)

So I guess I'm hoping desperately that someone with more XML skill than me can put that together for a 2125. Or if not, I'd welcome any advice on how to do this with my putrid XML skills.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Your tutorial is terrific... I read it again after getting some more sleep, and it started making sense. After poring over about 20 user submitted homescreens and doing that, I started gleaning how to make this work, and my screen is almost done now. Frankly, I'm glad I did it myself and I learned a little XML out of it.

The one thing I can't figure out how to fix though has to do with the MFU list. I want to have the app name display when the item is selected, and be invisible when it's unselected. If that makes any sense.

Is there an argument to have the unselected app name text be invisible? Using "transparent" in the font color didn't seem to work. I settled for reducing unselected font size to 1, but that's obviously not a permanent solution... you can see the pixel pretty clearly.

Wishing I could paste in a screenshot or the relevant xml, but I'm at work and gmail mobile doesn't want to let me attach files. Will be happy to post it later if needed.

I'm not sure I havn't tried but Ill have a go for you. If I cant find a solution you can try changing the colour when unselected so it blends into the background image?

I did try using a pink that was color sampled from that spot on the image in Photoshop, but it seemed to look the same as when I used black. Just like a tiny speck on the screen. Not a huge deal, but definitely noticable.

If you have the time to mess about I'd be grateful, but you've already helped a ton just by writing that guide.
