All,

I have a really annoying issue with my phone and I was hoping some one out there has a fix for it.

Basically, when I come out of the subway (train, or after turning my phone on after a flight), it takes my phone in excess of 5 minutes to get a signal. Some times I have to turn the device off and on several time. People around me can use their phone immediately after coming out of the subway but I have to wait for a long time.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have no solution for you, but just the assurance that you are not alone :). I often have this problem with my SP5 on Cingular. Two ways to force it to acquire a signal: enable and disable Flight Mode; or keep trying to make a phone call, even if the phone shows no signal bars. These work some times. But I do have some situations when I just have to wait. This is easily the biggest annoyance with WM smartphones. (I had the same problem with my Audiovox SMT5600.)

It's a common problem with HTC phones. The only sure way to get the signal back is to power cycle it.

I haven't seen much difference with the ROM versions I have used. On the Typhoon the problem occured with the Cingular ROM and the WM5 ROM, and with the Tornado, it happens with i-mate's pre- and post-AKU2 ROMs.
